The dog days of summer: AUGUST!

Many guys get a great rate "all miles". Deadheads home hurt that, of course. But I wonder just how many people keep up with, and will post what they are ACTUALLY averaging per mile, all miles. Yes, our guys are down a few cents per mile too. I wouldn't dare say otherwise. But how much DH...

The dog days of summer: AUGUST!

Yes. The days of the "self proclaimed professional expedite driver" owning the industry are over. Good people coming from all walks of life doing a great job. I blame American Axle. Why? An keep in mind I have NO idea what the real answer is. Wasn't it 2008 when they went on strike? Didn't...

The dog days of summer: AUGUST!

I'll be the first to admit that it's been tough. The go-to cities and regions have just not been as "go-to" as they used to be. Rates are in the crapper, sometimes. We lose a lot of bids. But at least we're losing them because we're not the cheapest bids out there. Oh, we're competitive. But...

    Multiple stops

Loads with a lot of multiple stops tend to fetch a good bit more than many think, IMHO. I know when I see a load with 8, 10, 12 stops or more I think..."ugh". If enough people shy away from those it tends to make them more valuable. I did an 8-stopper to a bunch of Kroger stores several months...

The dog days of summer: AUGUST!

The "black holes" are roving around these days. Seemingly. There are several areas we used to love to go to and even those are harder to get out of at any rate these days. Everyone has a bad week or two here and there. Hopefully the good ones make up for it. But, by design, the market is...

    another newbie, another day

Only a week out at max makes it really tough. Many times theres a pretty big DH home. To do that every week gets expensive!

The dog days of summer: AUGUST!

Been skipping all the KC area loads this week. KC has been kinda like the Raid Roach Motels. Too much checking in, compared to the amount of "checking out". IMHO, of course. TX too!! Although there's been PLENTY of both!!

    Where to go?

It's a bit tougher everywhere. Slim margins and low award percentages. There are fewer "hot spots" and more sitting trucks. The average load length seems shorter. Not sure if it's a cycle or a trend. But everyone keep plugging at it. Or actually, get out!!! Less competition would be GREAT...

How Not to Treat a Prospective Driver

One can't fault Turri/Fusion for not taking vans. There's already too many vans/Sprinters/cubes out there. Every day is a struggle. A struggle for loads & a struggle for rates. Rock on, Turri!!!

The dog days of summer: AUGUST!

At the very minimum you'd need to insulate 6' of it (that's what I did) and use the furniture pad curtains and run a generator and portable a/c. I got out of my van before it got hot this year. But the insulation came in REAL handy this past winter.

The dog days of summer: AUGUST!

Rigid insulation then Masonite panels over that. Spray foam in the door cavities but don't spray moving parts for latches. Get a couple of extendable poles to hang furniture pads over and only cool inside that area.

'Ey, wot's this under me van?

Looks something like an ECM. Aluminum body molded for heat distribution. Awfully far back to be anything like a tranny module.

Who is supposed to pay the liability and cargo insurance?

The last 8 hours were different than all of July. But 1/2 a day does not a recovery make. LOL!! Hopefully digging out. It's still spotty. Location, location, location. I think I read that on a stall at a PFJ one day.

Who is supposed to pay the liability and cargo insurance?

Then it's a good thing your carrier doesn't require that. :)

Who is supposed to pay the liability and cargo insurance?

Good point. I'll start sending the policy numbers for all the policies that fall under our authority. They're all $1M, $100K, with us as add ins. So far, all our guys are with CIS, except one. And he's with Progressive Direct and meets the same requirements we have. Thanks for bringing that to...
