    Rate per mile?

There have been several threads in the General forum about the FedEx flat rate program. I've noticed that with a few exceptions no one else is posting there numbers or there rate per mile all miles. No one from Express 1, Tri State, Load 1, Bolt, All State Express or JD Clark has said anything...

Flat rate vs Percentage dry box. Part 3,456.

Since we usually DH to an active freight area, regardless of the layover option, we ran a lot of unpaid miles. I took the total miles the truck ran this year, minus out the personal DH home, then divided my gross by those miles and we came up with $1.35 per mile including tolls assistance and...

Thanks A Team, sure hope you were right!

Something I may have failed to mention. If we or any other contractor that switches to the flat rate program are unhappy we are allowed to switch back to the percentage rate contract. (Last I heard only 2 had switched back) But then we can not go back to flat rate again.

    Building Your Business Plan Spreadsheet

Trying to stay on track but answering Greg's question. Yes, for us we will have less unpaid DH miles. Instead of going where they offered as a layover option we used to go where we knew there was freight. Now we will go wherever they send us and they will move us to the freight.

My bobtail insurance is $150 QC is $35 per week. Work accident is .02 times gross. I also budget $250 for a PM, $55 for truck wash (once on the road and we do it ourselves at home), and $500 for a maintenance fund.

    Ultrashift shifting problem?

I checked my codes and had 3 inactives. 72-Failure to select a rail. 73-Failure to engage a gear. 91-Check of the wiring integrity. I am thinking that I will take it in to the shop and have the fluid changed and clutch adjusted and see if having the ECU reprogrammed would benefit me...

That would be a good idea. OOIDA has a good Costs of Operations spreadsheet that you might be able to use as a starting point.

    Ultrashift shifting problem?

A few days ago our Ultrashift transmission started acting up. It would not go into gear at times either up shifting or down shifting. We had to pull over on the side of the road and shut our battery switch off for 2 minutes to get the transmission to reset. This went on several times for about...

We get around 10 MPG and are hoping to keep $.90 per mile after fuel. If we run 13,000 miles a month we will gross $11,700 after fuel. Deduct Work Accident Insurance, QC Fees, Bobtail Insurance and our maintenance fund and we will net before taxes a little over $10,500. Put away 10% for taxes...

The rate is $1 per mile + FSC + tolls for all dispatched miles including deadhead, loaded and deadhead to planned layover. Deadhead to planned layover is an area that FedEx wants you to wait in for the next load, so after the delivery you go to that area. Here's an example. We are at home in...

    Ultashift Tune Up?

How would that help me? It seems to shift fine as it is and we are getting right at 10 mpg on the long runs. Who would I take it to for that type of work. Would they know if it would benefit me and what it should be set at for my specific application? I am totally unknowledgeable on this subject.

    From the dark side..............

Since I was mentioned in post 18 by usafk9 I will put up our numbers for 1/1/2011 through 5/28/2011. We did 45,177 dispatched miles for $67,212 on 67 runs. Average run was 674 miles. And we were home for 40 days. Our truck which is a 2006 Columbia was purchased 18 months ago for $28,000...

    Ultashift Tune Up?

Is there such a thing as a tune up for an Eaton Ultrashift transmission? Like a fluid change, clutch adjustment, etc. Whatever should be done on a regular service basis. Nothing has been touched on ours since the clutch replacement about 150,000 miles ago.

So far in the last 31 days we have been on the road we have only run 10,800 miles at an average of $1.40 all miles including FSC and tolls. Hopefully we will get more miles on this new program. 13,000 miles on this program will beat the old percentage program we were on. As far as living we...

It's a buck a mile plus FSC plus tolls. All miles. Deadhead to pickup, loaded and deadhead to planned layover. My pay for 150 mile deadhead, 750 mile run and 100 miles to planned layover will be $1320 plus tolls. Can someone compare that to say Panther or Express 1?
