Most of the flat rate trucks are solos (I think). It might just be because I'm in Florida and freight out of Florida has always been slow.

Still at home. Went back in service this morning as a solo (for the first time) on the flat rate program. Did not get any load offers. As a team we usually get dispatched right away. So far I am not impressed.

So, if I were to change my plan to Sprint's unlimited everything and get one of those new fancy phones I could access the internet from it, send text messages and pictures. Any recommendations for an easy to use phone for the technologically challenged?

Wow, am I confused and technologically challenged. My cell phone works as a phone and can take pictures (but I don't know what to do with them. They seem to be trapped in the phone) and has voice mail. I use a broadband card for the internet. Is it really necessary to have a phone that does...

A lot of times it's cheaper to buy something in the truck stop then to drive 10 miles to save a buck. We make lists of what we need and then try to get them when near a Walmart.

That's why you should only take it to a dealer as a last resort. My local shop is across the street from a Freightliner dealer and people would rather wait than go to the dealer. About 30% cheaper too.

I met a no legged trucker. He had a wheel chair lift that went right into the sleeper. And he didn't even let me get the door for him on his way into the truck stop.

When we drove for a fleet owner we got 60% of the gross pay including FSC, tolls, etc. We paid for fuel only. He paid for work accident insurance, tolls, fuel taxes, etc. I think it worked out better for us than for him.

FedEx bases there times on 47 MPH. We drive 62-64 and stop every 150 miles or 3 hours to do our freight securement check. In 3 years we have 100% on time pick up and delivery. If you are running that fast and are still late there is something wrong with the way the times are being calculated.
