I agree my great grandmother and grandmother both married young. The standards now are to wait till at least 18 if not 20 to have kids, when this was not always so. The big difference is alot of people are having kids before they are married, and I don't think that was quite so common back then.

Also HOS can get confusing because you can actually drive for more than 11 hours in some circumstances, or if you are within 100 miles from your terminal then the 14 hour rule comes into effect for local drivers. Anyways, the OP was in a van and unless he has haz-mat it's a moot point:D

You make a good point haz-mat may indeed require logging/HOS not sure though. How many expedite companies haul haz-mat?

Also, I think some of us need to remember that a newbie with a question, is a newbie, to us the question may be obvious, to them it is a serious question. I think we all forget that from time to time.

I don't know, it's hard to judge attitude with the written word sometimes. I read is as you saying it with a smirk, although you could have been 100% serious. That is what gets us in trouble sometimes in these forums:)

Not every driver or van is the same either, one might last 500K one might not, kinda of a hard question to answer. Maybe we need to be comparing service costs Oil change brake job tune up transmission service 30K service things like that

I'm not a Sprinter driver or owner, but it's in the front of the van under the hood somewhere :p:rolleyes: I'm betting if one is on the horn and one is looking for it, one will find it quickly :o)

If the parents would manage their kids, then maybe they could go out. I'm talking about kids that are old enough to know better, not a baby!!! No reason in the world should a 4 to 10 year old be running around a restaurant or screaming etc.

If your in a van and the company does not impose restrictions, you can switch drivers anytime you want, when you get tired at restroom breaks etc. In a straight truck it isn't that easy because of HOS:)

I don't know what the solution is, but all these government programs, Medicare, Social Security etc etc are going to bankrupt us. I am sure there are many that would opt out of SS in a New York minute, I know I would. I am 41 and know that I could do a better job with investments and have more...
