Westmicher's New XLT 10 Project Begins!

I'll look at chip and/or air box changes later. I have several very good Ford mechanics as friends, so they will advise me as we go. Right now the strategy is the lightest weight possible and the lowest drag / frontal area possible. I don't believe the 5.4 is a very efficient engine but it is...

Westmicher's New XLT 10 Project Begins!

Well, as far as costs go, I'm going to put more into my truck than most people probably would. For instance, the truck itself was about $28,000, including rebates and upfitter credits. But I loaded it with just about every option which added more than $3,000 to the base. I put another $1,700...

Westmicher's New XLT 10 Project Begins!

My Ford Dealer has agreed to sell these if my body & frame guys want to build more of them after they build this one (I'm pretty hard on them getting the right body built). If it works out, I would be willing to work with any qualified Ford dealer on the same terms. But we have to get this one...

The box will be all aluminum construction, except for the floor. The frame will be aluminum tube covered by aluminum skin attached with aircraft tape and rivets. The shape will be tapered up from the top of the cab to the top of the box. The side walls tapered both up and down to appoximate...

Westmicher's New XLT 10 Project Begins!

Yeah, definately rear wheel drive. Its identical to the 12,500 chassis except the label says "10,000 lb GVW". However, I bought wheels & tires that are rated 13,680 lbs total so it could physically carry the 12,500 lbs total, though not legally.

Westmicher's New XLT 10 Project Begins!

The wheelbase is 176". I changed the wheels & tires because I wanted wheels that were more sexy than the ugly white wheels it came with from the factory and I needed bigger/higher capacity tires to carry the load properly. The tires are now Michelin MTX2 low rolling resistance tires. This was...

Westmicher's New XLT 10 Project Begins!

Our new truck has arrived! We've changed the wheels, tires, and exhaust to start. The new super-areo box is next. Our goals are no more than 6,000 lbs. empty with a 10,000 lb. GVW. Room for 4 skids plus a small kitchen area and a built in generator box in the side. She weighs 4,510 lbs. as...

Who should be Romney's VP ?

Someone fom Ohio, Florida, or maybe Wisconsin will deliver the election. I like Rubio, Jeb Bush, and some others from those states. Disclaimer: I just donated to Romney's campaign, again! He's going to win easily over Nobama!

Well that fizzled .... van for sale.

We drive a 2006 3500 with modified wheel wells (cut down 7") and a platform floor. There is 5" of height lost but more than 20" of width gained. We are 6,000 pounds leaving 3,990 payload. In addition, we replaced the ultra-stupid looking 15" diameter wheels with Alcoa 16" aluminum rims...

    Headlight longevity

Yeah, we noticed both. Silverstars don't last very long but they are noticably whiter and brighter. Our only advice; if you run them, you'd better carry a couple of spares always!

    A Question for Express-1 Contractors

Certainly, there is a much greater focus on tractor-trailer freight, including more owner-operators of tractors, of course. That probably means more regular freight with express freight. Straight trucks seem to be a focus too, with rates going up slightly recently. We don't see any less focus...

    What is your position?

The moment we arrive @ the shipper we message QC that we have arrived and immediately GPS the route. VERY rarely is there much difference, maybe 3 times in 2 years, but if there is we call dispatch immediately and they've corrected before we leave the shipper. If we leave the shipper's dock...

    Where are the Unemployed Going??

Adding to the 16-18% real unemployment is the fact that just about everyone has taken massive cuts to their income, even if they still have a job. Barry is trying to convince you that he's done a wonderful job and everything is improving fantastically. We all know it just isn't true.

    Bolt

That's the point I was trying to make. Actually, I think all the words in a sentence are important or it's just nonsense. Right?

We've NEVER taken a LOAD for less THAN $0.90 a mile AND never plan to. But then AGAIN, we run a LOT MORE miles than that. Good LUCK!
