    WWW....Who Wears Watches

A distinguished member mentioned losing his watch. How many people still wear wristwatches ? And why or why not. I stopped wearing one when I started turning wrenches.

IF all the legit carriers would pull out of that customer for 30 days, maybe the shipper would realize the shady characters can’t cover them. They need the legit people to carry their business.

I like the idea of weighing all six wheel vehicles. If you can’t get them on weight, once they exceed 10,000 lbs, you can check insurance, logbook, etc. Give them enough grief to think twice about it. It’s not all that hard to dodge fixed scales. I really like the idea of weighing all...

A very good friend hauled trucks with me out of GM in Flint until GM dropped the Medium Duty business. 90% of the loads we hauled were illegal in Michigan as they hung off the back of our 53’ dropdecks. We were union, so the company paid the tickets, but as O/O’s we wanted to avoid any...

///// Help.... My helper screwed up my 2 speed rear /////

Haven’t had any two speed rears since the 70’s. As cheap as they were, no idea of the pricing now, I’d think just save your time, throw a new one on, relieve all doubts. About $250 today. I think $40 back in the 70’s.

    Mack midliner

ATHS. They will lead you to some Mack scrapyards. Parts for a 22 year old low volume truck will be tough. You may want to become friends with a fabricator. Rueble ? There’s someone, probably in New England that specializes in old make parts.

    Mileage vs Percentage

62 % is pretty common. Since you’re just starting, I’d ask for rate confirmation from the start. Every Load, as part of your normal payroll. It’s a good habit if they agree. If not, I’d always have suspicions. By law, you have the right to know.

    Nervous newbie

Josh, it is different because ES is not the carrier. Historically, some companies would sell you a truck and pull gimmicks to rip you off. Required inspections at company facilities. You’d flunk and have to buy an overpriced repair to get back on dispatch. Or they’d run you hard, gets lots of...

    Nervous newbie

Generally good advice. I’d say ES is an exception to the rule. They’re not Prime or KLLM. They have such a good reputation and thier company culture is so different than most lease companies. They want you to succeed and grow into a fleet. Then they prosper with you, not off of you.
