How can one tell when something "almost" explodes? It either does or doesn't...

I have 2 heaters and the one for some reason had excessive oil build up ....wonder if it dries over the summer season? or just sticks to the tubing? when I get out here I can't just run home like some can...;)

I was thinking of taking mine apart on the table and cleaning all the tubing out that I can reach...what ya think?
