Anyone here about a law suit?

Law suits are public-record events. If one has been filed, it would be a simple matter to verify it and learn the details.

How Do You Figure Reefer Payback?

It has been several days since posts have been made to this topic, suggesting that it has run its course. Thank you to those who contributed to it. My next step is to review the thread in depth, develop a reefer-payback formula, run it by my accountant (a trucking industry tax specialist) to...

Union - Could it work, is it needed?

There is a huge difference between OOIDA and a labor union. OOIDA is a professional association that truck drivers voluntarally join. OOIDA does what it can to determine the best interests of its membership and advocate for that. In every union I've been forced to join, it was just that...being...

Panther to sell out to UPS??

jbrbears, a UPS recruiter, says a fair amount about UPS in the "Ask The Recruiter" forum. See: http://www.expeditersonline.com/dcforum/DCForumID19/324.html His comments lead me to believe that UPS plans to expand into expediting in a big way over time and that they will grow their own fleet...

Broom made a response about what your time is wort

RE: Broom made a response about what your time is Overnight, another important lesson learned came to mine. That is, a lesson learned by reading the Open Forum before we became expediters, that helped us avoid some of the common mistakes that lead to other expediters' unplanned exits from the...

    Walkie Talkie

You got it! Diane and I have been using them for a while now. It is hard to imagine being without them now. As inexpensive as they are, we carry extras, in case one gets lost or wrecked. Rechargable batteries make it easier to leave the walkies on for extended periods. You don't have to worry...

    OOIDA Says Boycott Indiana Tollroad

I don't recall the exact dates and dollar amounts, but it was not so long ago that Iowa lowered the tolls on I-80 and raised truck speed limits there to lure trucks back on to the tollway. That was after a previous toll increase gave truckers all the incentive they needed to choose other routes...

    Sleepy Drivers

You don't have to visit with many drivers about sleep to quickly conclude that people vary widely in their sleep habits and needs. Some can sleep well in a bunk in a moving truck, others cannot. Some could not sleep more than 7 hours a night if you paid them. Others very much need 8 hours of...

    Making Money in Expediting

Ah ha! Good catch. It sounds like the kind of tweak FedEx would find easy to fix. If you succeed, you'll have done a favor for a bunch of drivers.

    Dangerous bridge in Carlisle Pa.

I read the article you linked to. It said, in part, "Every few weeks a truck goes over on its side on the Clarks Ferry Bridge. The way it was designed, truck drivers experience a gradually curved stretch of highway at 65, fail to slow down to the 45 mph speed limit, and then flip when they get...

    FedEx will make some change's

Regarding the mileage rate used to calculate the fuel surcharge for straight trucks, the "Fuel Surcharge Helper" on the FedEx Extranet states 9 mpg is use for straight trucks. I'm wondering, where the 10 mpg figure is coming from? Is not 9 already being used?

    New Truck Tires

For FedEx drivers, Goodyear has a big discount program for you; at least they did the last couple times fleet owners had us buy tires for their trucks. There is a program number we gave the dealers. The savings were substantial, along the same lines Leo reported. Check the FedEx Extranet or your...
