    Free Samples

Ah, free samples and gifts. I can't recall being on the receiving end of gifts as an expediter. Maybe because I don't spend much time at either the shipper or consignee. Rush, rush, don't you know. In my truckload days it was hauling loads of beer out of Schmidt brewery in St. Paul. $1.50...

    mattress for the truck

I forgot to mention that the Select Comfort is an air adjustable bed. You will need an inverter to supply 110 VAC. I'm not sure if a 12VDC pump is available.

    mattress for the truck

If it is a standard full size mattress you need then go to any store that sells mattresses. Several E.O. van owners have had custom mattresses made at The Original Mattress Factory. ATeam has a Select Comfort mattress. That's the way I would go. We have one at home. Very comfortable.

    Double Clutch or Not?

Okay. I give up. I'm going to bring up a game of Scrabble on my computer and spend the rest of the morning talking to the nice people at Panther. Then I am going to stick a pencil in my eye. Later!

    When is a D is better than a C

When is a D better than a C? If this is a riddle then I have to say a D is better than a C except when it is a B. Otherwise I'm with Turtle on this one: "If you're not a leg man or a butt man or something, then I'd say that pretty much always a D is gonna be preferred to a C."

    Bob Club Membership

Me too, me too! Can I join? I have already sent you a check for $89.25 to cover the cost of a background check, fingerprints and photo ID. How much for the de-coder ring?

    Double Clutch or Not?

Most transmission manufacturers add all those extra gears and gizmos to increase their profit margins. Same reason the truck manufacturers add all those silly gauges. Sure its cool looking, but totally worthless dude!. Also the numbers assigned are not sequential. Start out in any flippn' gear...

    GM Wheel Bearings

Rob, I think your 2000 probably had serviceable bearings. I know my 1998 did. The bearings on my 2004 are a sealed assembly that also incorporates the ABS.

    Sprinter vs. Cargo Van

The black void at the bottom right of the photo is the hair on the left side of my head. I have a wide "part" down the middle. Next pay check I'm buying a hockey helmet and some Rogain.

    Double Clutch or Not?

Starting out in 4th or 5th is also a great way to keep from wearing out gears 1, 2, and 3. Those gears can be saved for special occasions, like Fridays during lent.

    Sprinter vs. Cargo Van

Okay, I see it now. It does look like a nose. But it is really my head. I have wide patch of bare skin that runs down the center of my head from front to back.

    Unfrickinbelivable

Turtle: Can you explain this one to me? Thursday morning I accept a load from Avon, Mn to Mossville, Il. It is a Caterpillar load and I know from experience the tendered mileage will be different from the actual mileage I drive. It was 67 miles to the shipper. Load offer: 499 miles PCMiler...

I was groveling for a load!

    Unfrickinbelivable

While the disclaimer does match the load offer it doesn't always match the settlement sheet. Especially with Caterpillar loads. Yeah, I know Cat loads come up very short of actual miles driven. But I'm talking about a discrepancy between the load offer and the final paid miles. OVM said...

    Sprinter vs. Cargo Van

Somewhere here on E.O. in the last few days was a post about cargo vans vs. Sprinters, pros and cons of each. I couldn't find it so I started this thread. I am on my second cargo van and into my 12th year of expediting. If you are over 48 inches tall, which I am at at 70" and shrinking you...

    2006 Hino

You do what you can do to deal with the effects of extreme cold weather. But it never seems to be enough. I can't blame the cold on my alternator failure, but it may have been a contributing factor. At temperatures exceeding -25 degrees both man and machine have a high failure rate. In...

    Keeping fit and driving

I see more and more small gyms around. Many can be found in strip malls that are somewhat truck friendly. Snap Fitness and Anytime Fitness are two that come to mind. There is Curves which is for women only. I don't know if these are national chains, but I do see them in the midwest. Even...
