    So much for the strike!

I have an online acquaintance named Tim Conway. He is a truck driver but not an expediter. When talking about a truck strike, he makes an observation about the public that has not been often mentioned (quoted here with his permission). He says, "Do you really think that Joe Public is going to...

    help with questions regarding panther

There are other deals out there, different than what you describe. You would be wise to shop and compare. Also, if you have not already done so, read Introduction to Expediting.

    660 Expiditer

I am curious to know more about Expediter Services. Those red trucks with white boxes, leased to Panther, FedEx Custom Critical and TriState, and perhaps other carriers, are an increasingly frequent sight on the road. In the last month, Diane and I have had lunch with two Expediter Services...

    Need Opinions PLZ!!!!!

It's not about me doing well or not doing well. It's about developing a better sense (as in specific data) about what is going on out there. My reason for asking is no different than me asking drivers we might meet at a truck stop and shop talk comes up. You talked about your results so I took...

    Courier to Expediting???

True enough. Still, these are somber times, and I fear they will get worse before they get better (my personal view). Put in another way, I expect general economic conditions to further soften and to remain so for an extended period of time. While there may be similarities between the courrier...

    Need Opinions PLZ!!!!!

Thank you for that. Hard data is what I find difficult to obtain. I have tried using the classifieds to determine trends but find that very, very difficult to do. General observations can be spun to say just about anything you want them to say. Trying to quantify the numbers of trucks available...

    Need Opinions PLZ!!!!!

Two questions please, Tennesseeahawk? 1. Do you drive a tractor/trailer or a straight truck? Just asking out of curiosity. I thought you ran a straight truck. Has that changed? 2. Regarding straight truck freight volume and the number of straight trucks, what is your information source? As I...

    Bonus

When we drove fleet owner trucks, two of the owners would pay our tolls if our in service numbers were 80% or higher. If you offer that bonus, be sure to be clear about the specified time period in which the bonus applies. In service numbers fluctuate week to week, month to month, and quarter to...

    Put a shower/toilet in? hard?

Attached is a photo of an owner-operator who addressed his and his wife's bathroom needs by thinking inside the box; the truck box, that is. It is a concept you might consider. He built a bathroom, complete with a flush toilet and shower in his 24 foot truck body, leaving well over 20 feet of...

    How Was the Truck Show?

Diane and I chose to run this year instead of attend the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, but as the show went on and we listened to radio broadcasts from it, we were sorry to be missing it. We have heard about Ripoff Parking at MATS and the MATS Miracle. Are there any other reports...

Very true. The more decorated the font, the less likely I am to read the post.

    MPG & Slowing Down

Diane and I have also found it true. Slowing down helps improve fuel economy. We notice a 1 mpg improvement when we drive 55 mph instead of 65 mph.

    Your Truck Was Observed...

We received a letter in the mail saying, "On 2/28/08, your truck was observed on I-80 West in Gary, IN. The average speed of the truck was 53 mph in a 55 mph zone, with an average following distance of 9 seconds." The letter came from our carrier, FedEx Custom Critical. The information was...

    Fuel savings vs equipment needs

It is very interesting, Humble2drive, to see you inject fuel economy into the traditional liftgate and pallet jack equipment cost/beneift question that rises from time to time here in the Open Forum. It is a sign of the times. I don't recall anyone factoring in the extra weight of a lift gate...

    Expediters Going Hungry, For Real

Thank you for the links. I guess before I made assumptions as to why the truck and equipment is for sale, I would ask the seller to explain exactly what "business problems" mean in the ad. Same with your assumption about the truck sitting. We do not even know from the ad if this is a one-owner...

Has Anyone Met a Hobby Expediter?

There is sometimes talk about hobby expediters here in the Open Forum. They sometimes get blammed for driving freight prices down. They get criticized for not being "real" expediters who are in the business to make money. They get criticized for taking loads away from other expediters who...

    Expediters Going Hungry, For Real

Help me understand what you are saying. Is business about profits? Or is business about people living by a standard, not that they set, but that you set for them and judge them by? If an expediter can serve shippers better by running freight more profitably than you can at a given rate, are you...
