    Why rag on Palin?

I like this. Really. Imagine if Greene won. No, not for the state position, but for the US Senate. Ok, let's make it the House; the stakes are higher in the Senate. Then, to balance him out, the Republicans would have to have one congressman for comic relief. Maybe that Basil Marceaux guy...

    What holds America together?

You and RLENT are both right. RLENT correctly stated what holds this nation together. You answered what tears it apart.

Are you sure you're posting about the right country? Are you sure you're in the right country? First, the Supreme Court has held that the right to travel is not just a right, but a fundamental right. I say that in response to your horses, mules, wagons, buggies, etc. comment. But more...

I can't take the looser losers anymore!

Another one that boils my potatoes: "Can I go with?" It's "Can I go with you" or "Can I go along?"

Yet, we have static laws and standards (cf. hours of service) because they can't legislate something so subjective, or leave it up to an individual's whim whether or not someone is impaired. A standard is needed, and this guy was legally not intoxicated under that standard. It is...

the changing climate and interstate travel

They certainly could, but as I pointed out, it takes only 2 to start a trend. If a couple more winters like this go by, I think we have to declare it "the new normal." We're actually still in the tail end of the current ice age, an ice age defined as one in which there is ice at the poles and...

Neanderthals were not ugly because of the cold, new research finds

Give it a few months. Let peer review work. I've seen many announcements like this over the years. They all turn up to be not what they were advertised.

Well, the idea is that the states plow and treat the roads so that they aren't unsafe, and the drivers can then get 'er done.

    Would it work here?

The government is ours to reform or abolish if we please. So if tomorrow, the People decide we aren't going to have the same model of government, or that each and every sitting politician on the federal level is out on their @$$, then so it is. "That whenever any form of government becomes...

Trucking 101 - YOU ARE GOING TO SIT!

It's been mentioned many times that some companies would love to have a CV, Sprinter, ST, and TT on every corner in case a customer from that area calls. Doesn't matter to them if that truck runs or sits. As long as that unit isn't costing them money, and in fact, they make money off that...

the changing climate and interstate travel

Ah, but that's the rub: this is interstate commerce, which is expressly an area the feds are to be involved in. Says so right in that constitution thingy. And if my regional plowing crew idea were used, that's easily a dozen storms that track across the southern interstates, even in a mild winter.

the changing climate and interstate travel

But again, those are snows nobody could keep up with. They eventually catch up and reopen. But with some of the Southern states, a smaller snowfall that should be shrugged off shuts down travel. If I'm right about those becoming more frequent and becoming the new norm, something will have to...
