    New Future

Greetings akemt1. Not many people will see your post here in the basement. I happened upon it while down here fetching some pickles. You may want to post in the Newbies Forum, but first do some reading in the archives.

    First out and what ever

10 loads, 3 refusals = 70%. 3÷10 = .30. 100% - 30% = 70%. Always check the driver website under your "availability" after refusing a load to see if you got charged with a legitimate refusal. Less than rate loads, dispatched more than 8 hours and more than 40% deadhead should not count as a...

Ford; retire the E-van, build the Transit

Nice van! The specs were somewhat difficult to discern in the posted link. Doing some converting the cargo area length is 133.8" (3399 mm). I could not find an inside width. The payload for the long wheelbase high top was 2905 pounds (1318 kg) Take a 200 pound driver, E-track, a couple of...

Looking for ideas/input for a drivers facility.

When I was a kid I worked nights for a janitorial service that was contracted by Donaldson Manufacturing. The area I was responsible for cleaning contained a drafting room, some offices, a hallway, a couple of bathrooms and a soundproof room used for testing truck mufflers. Occasionally if I...

One could remove the third brake lamp, do some cutting and install a small 110 volt window air conditioner.

    Yeah, what Rob said!

    Per diem days

Travel and waiting days count as long as you are away from home. Going OOS while away from home could be a grey area. Also "per diem day is redundant being that diem is Latin for day. Kinda like PIN number or VIN number.

    van for newbies

Several years ago Motorcraft ran an ad with the tagline: "Taxi tested tough." The implication was that taxis got the snot driven out of them. Stop and go city traffic, extended idling and multiple drivers took their toll on engine parts. I personally would not buy a van with over 100,000 taxi...

What would you do if your present carrier closed?

If my present carrier closed I would lease on with Panther. Um, ah my present carrier is Panther. It was my former carrier that closed, actually was sold to Panther and I leased on with Panther. So my present carrier is Panther and if they closed I would... I know the answer to this! I have...

And now here is the weather ......

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) concludes 2010 was 0.53C warmer than the average for the period 1961-90 - a period commonly used as a baseline. Wow, a 29 year baseline. Hard to dispute those cold hard scientific facts.

    a job

All one hears about is the driver shortage with very little media attention devoted to the recruiter/human resources personnel shortage. We as a nation must first deal with the recruiter/human resource shortage before we can begin to address the driver shortage. One crisis at a time. Within...

    Sadness for the EO Family

I have never met Jeff but talked with him many times on the phone and did some interviews. His voice was what I will always remember about him. He has a wonderful voice and an amazing ability to take a rambling, incoherent phone interview and turn it into an interesting and informative printed...

    the problem with rates ????

I guess it depends on your definition of a relevant process and your position in the food chain. From where I sit I see very little relevance with the process of a brokerage/logistics arm of a carrier securing loads then brokering these loads to that carrier.

Are rates for the truck or the load?

Yeah, someone will let you know.

    the problem with rates ????

Allow me to add a third reason: 3PL's. One more hand (in some cases 2 or 3 more hands) taking a slice from the same size pie.
