    Van down

The dude has run out of gas twice in the last 5 weeks! Not an acceptable practice for an expediter or an MX'er. Ask Turtle what I think about running out of fuel. I'm still on his shell about him almost running out of fuel. Only glueheads run on fumes. Now I will jump on Mike's back; it's...

    Aversion to Dodges?

Welcome back Sluggo. Haven't heard from you in a while. Before you buy a Dodge van, make sure the carrier you want to sign with will take on an older van. Many of the big carriers won't sign on a van that old.

    expediting: passion or necessity

Chet, I actually know what all that gibberish means. My wife was in APICS for about 15 years. She was a CPIM but never a Fellow. Definitely never a fellow.

    Van down

I can't remember back that far, but I'm sure I made all kinds of mistakes. I still make mistakes, daily. The trick is to learn from your mistakes to prevent repeating them. http://www.expeditersonline.com/forum/general-expediter-forum/51479-talk-about-up-downs.html#post497354

    Van down

On my 1998 Chevy I went about 180,000 before the fuel pump failed. Most Chevys of that vintage had the pumps replaced by 100,000, if not sooner. I never ran below a ¼ tank and changed the fuel filter twice a year. My 04 Chev has 570,000 miles on it with the original fuel pump and I have never...

    air line freeze up

The actual dump valve? So when you dump your air it is exhausted in the cab?

    air line freeze up

I believe the most common and practical setup has the dump valve near the height control valve by the bags and axles.

    What's Going On At Panther???

Re: What's Going On At Panther???UPDATE What's the rate per mile? What possible legal reasons would prevent you from naming the company?

    air line freeze up

You probably should be draining the tanks daily.

    air line freeze up

The control for the dump valve is inside the cab.

    Home time

I agree the first quarter can be slow but if you have the cash reserves and are prepared as Scotty seems to be, then this might just be a good time to start and get used to working within a carrier's system before things get real busy.

That's a huge plus! Even if you only gross $50,000, carefully using deductions like mileage, per diem, office supplies, home office space etc. will greatly reduce your combined gross income tax burden if you file jointly.

Also, you can go home any time you want, if you don't mind paying the fuel for the trip. Once home, you may have to wait a few days to get out of Toledo. When Chef Dennis weighs in on this I'm sure he will mention deadheading toward to Chicago from Toledo to get to a better location. Much...

I believe buying a used van, even a new one, you could do better than $12,000 a year net. Does your wife work? Being a van O/O is a great way to reduce your pre-tax gross income.

Tractor-trailer and cargo stolen in Detroit...

I think you also are failing to make the connection between: "I tes (sic) my drivers all the time." and "But thank god I have several awesome serious drivers working for me and they are super responsible and take care of my trucks and our clients." Why do you test these "awesome serious...

idtrans, please bridge the gap between these two quotes for me. I'm having some difficulty making a connection.
