Socially incorrect way to celebrate a 65th birthda

RE: Socially incorrect way to celebrate a 65th bir Good news on a healthy birthday, active future, AND new truck! A couple days ago, a dealer told me that if I ordered a new cab and chasis that is factory-built to my specifications, it would be delivered in January, 2006. it seems the new...

    Freight Zones

I have discovered if I get in a good streak, stay >with it as long as you can. > >Thats a Freight Zone, from my expierence. You make a very good point that is seldom mentioned. If you are on a streak (one run after another) stay with it. Walking away from a string of loads because you want...

    First Runs

Thank you for sharing. This is very interesting and informative reading for those that are a few weeks behind you....i.e. getting ready to jump in themselves. You've done them a service by sharing your early experiences as you have. It's entertaining reading too. Takes us back to our first days...

    what do I want?

When you complete your application for your carrier of choice, a number of questions will be asked of you. Use the same application to interview your prospective fleet owner. Lawrence's point about referrals from current and former drivers is important too. Driver applications are easy to get...

    Freight Charges

No need to BS anyone. FedEx CC has a shipper rate calculator right on it's web site. Just punch in a couple of zip codes, pick your truck type and presto! you have your rate. The link is: https://customcritical.fedex.com/rates/?link=1&lid=//Ship//CC+Rates+TT redytrk's point about large shipper...

    Broke down in Beloit, WI

MSinger, I know nothing about Dewey's or Eastside Mobil Service, but your post says a great deal about you. In the midst of a mechanical breakdown, you remained attentative to the freight you had on board, in communication with dispatch, on the job for your shipper and receiver, and focused on...

Does anyone else despise Pilot Travelcenters?

It seems every time I get to believing in one truck stop chain over another, something happens to change my mind. A new feature may be developed, a string of dirty bathrooms may be encountered, etc. Even visiting the same truck stop in the same city a series of times produces variable results...

are liftgates useful or extra weight

Sounds like you pretty much answered your own question. If you are not using it, it makes little sense to have it. Only reason to keep it would be if you think you might someday move to a carrier where more lift gate loads are offered.

    For the Long Haul

We've been doing without the book for 18 months. Just when I think I've finally decided that we can get along without it, something happens that makes me wish we had it. We'll bite the bullet and buy the book at the Louisville truck show this year if it is available. Otherwise we'll order it...

    Where has everyone gone

At last count, there are 2,166 members registered in the Open Forum. You may recall that just a few weeks ago, a new milepost was reached when the membership exceeded 2,000. The 166 member increase from that point indicates not only growth, but an accelerated rate of growth over previous time...

    Cannot say enough

Diane and I considered ourselves healthy before we started expediting 18 months ago. Your message gave us pause to think about our health since then. In 18 months, we've gone out of service once due to illness. We spent two or three days (memory fades on the exact number) in a truck stop...

    A Cat in the Truck

Since you are looking for reasons to talk you out of taking the cat, consider the following: 1. If the cat gets out by mistake, it could cause you big problems and heartache, especially if you are under load with a schedule to keep. I've seen cats at rest areas that apparently got left behind...

The care and maintenance of box floors............

RE: The care and maintenance of box floors........ That's a funny thing about pallet standard sizes. There is more than one standard depending on who you talk to and/or what industry is using the pallets. In reefer trucks we've driven, it is impossible to put two 48" pallets side by side...
