Need Help Finding Straps to Buy

A quick, initial internet search led me to believe that the straps would range in price from $30 to $50 each, plus shipping and tax as applicable. They weigh 17 lbs. each, which totals 136 lbs. for eight of them. That does not create a payload issue on our truck. Weight-wise, we have plenty of...

That would work. It would also work to have the straps custom made at shops that do that kind of work. The problem is the same for both options; time. We need them by Monday so we can arrive with them at the shipper on Tuesday.

I'm thinking the same thing about Fontana and Ontario, a target-rich environment for such vendors if there ever was one. We are heading toward Ontario today. We will have a list of business and phone numbers prepared and start working the phones first thing Monday morning. With help received...

Thanks, kwexpress. It does not help to be doing this search over the weekend. Like several other outlets, this one is closed on weekends. There is no one to talk to until Monday. I wonder if that Moot expediter has an upcharge for breaking and entering.

Grainger is indeed a good place for almost anything. I love that store. But when we called their national desk today (stores closed weekends), they said four-inch straps with J-hooks are not in their inventory.

Expediting looks a bit different when the shoe is on the other foot, doesn't it?

Thanks for the help, Ragman. You are running into the same thing we are. That strap has a flat-hook end and is more commonly found. We need the J-hook end. See photo in my original post.

I called the Utility trailer store in Tucson earlier today. They have four-inch straps with chain-hook ends but not with J-hook ends. If these trailer stores are open on weekends it is only part of Saturday. We will be in Ontario, CA on Monday. I looked at the Utility store web site and did not...

The Amazon lead just dried up. They have the straps we need but only standard shipping (3-5 days) is available on this item. We need to have the straps in hand by Monday.

This is sweet (not). Continuing my search online, Google takes me to this very thread. Lawrence might appreciate the speed at which the search engine picks up EO threads, but I am still without my straps.

Checking Harbor Freight and Home Depot web sites, I am finding the same thing. These companies do not have four-inch straps in their online inventory. Telephone calls to their Phoenix stores confirm this.

The item is not something that requires securement that would be out of the ordinary for any expediter to secure with standard equipment. I have talked directly to the shipper about this unusual request. The request is coming from the people he is shipping the item to. He was very clear about...

You are correct. We would not be buying these straps at all if not for a specific customer request, but the load money is right so buying them is the thing to do if we want the load. And there is the chance that the straps will be remembered by the customer and agent such that we may be called...

The search begins. It is 9:15 local time in Tucson. We're not clear of our load yet but as we wait to deliver I'm making calls. Will edit this post with updates as the game continues. - TA truck stop last night in Big Spring, TX: Not in stock - APC in Tucson: Does not carry the item -...

We will be in Tucson later today (Saturday). I got excited when I saw the $15 Sam's Club price you mentioned but that is for two-inch straps. We need four-inch straps with J-hooks (wire ends). Length of these straps is typically 30 feet or more. Online prices range from $30 to $50.

Diane and I need to buy, ASAP, eight, four-inch wide, J-hook-end ratchet straps. The ends are also known as wire hooks (different from flat hooks). There is not time to order them online and have them shipped. We're looking for a store where they can be purchased. Truck stops tried so far have...

It's not new at Landstar's other companies (Ranger, etc.), but I do not know the details. You'll have to talk to someone who knows that part of company and practices to satisfy your curiosity.

Landstar Now Recruiting Reefer Truck Teams

Landstar is a company in transition regarding EOBR's, and Landstar Express America (LEAM) is a special case because of its excellent HOS track record. You will be best off contacting the company directly to get the answers you seek, and you may find, as I have, that the answers change over time...
