    34 hour layover

I said nothing about barter and did not mean to imply it. It could be a friendly contest between friends to see who could polish the other's truck brighter. It could be me working on Joe's truck while he watches, or vice versa. The point is, the regs are ill-equipped to regulate our off time...

    34 hour layover

It's even more ironic that if Joe and I were parked side by side on a 34 hour restart, it would be illegal for us to work on our own trucks, but if we worked on each other's trucks, DOT would be fine with it.

FAA to "check" overweight pilots for restful sleep..

It's not absurd if you are one of the companies that stand to profit big by administering these dubious evaulations. For them, it's an opportunity to cash in. You can see their propaganda operation running full out by their injecting "facts" into the public conversation like "... tests for...

    Ready for hazmat changes?

I do not know if indendent owner-operators will be required to take this newly mandated training. If we do, it sounds like the training will take the form of an online course that can be completed in an hour or two.

Speed Limiters- my letter to my Congressman's

You missed my point. I did not say to shorten the letter. I said to keep everything in but add a summary paragraph at the beginning for the reader's convenience.

Speed Limiters- my letter to my Congressman's

The letter is too long to be read by busy people in Washington. While your points are valid and well made, it would be wise to keep everything in but begin the letter with a summary parapraph to assist your reader in grasping the main points. Someone who becomes interested by the opening...

    Craving Sugar?

Cruel? Maybe a little, but side-splitting funny too. LOL!

    Craving Sugar?

One trick someone shared with me about overcoming cravings is to tell yourself that you can have it tomorrow. That provides some relief and, often, she said, when tomorrow comes, the craving does not return.

    Craving Sugar?

The talk Dr. Lustig gave at the conference was pretty-much the same talk that you can see by viewing it on You Tube; see: "Sugar: The Bitter Truth." The conference was the annual conference and trade show that is held by the franchisor from which Diane and I purchased rights to build and...

Serious bad weather in the midwest

Maybe the driver did not have the radio on. Diane and I are in Bordentown, NJ, at the Petro. A team here received a call from family in the Midwest and were told that the storm chasers were setting up in their neighborhood. You know you are going to have an interesting day when you look out...

    Craving Sugar?

There are different kinds of cravings and they mean different things. The craving I had the other day for a ham sandwich is different than the craving a smoker has for a cigarette. The craving you might get for a beer when you see a billboard showing that tempting ice-cold glass of brew is...

    CARB may loosen rules

Here is a link to the story in question. I don't know what deciphering can be done given the information provided. My guess is that things are going on behind the scenes that are giving rise to these strange releases of information (formal and informal). All we can do is wait and see.

    Worst cities

Any list of good cities or bad cities will be problematic for an individual straight truck. Using load boards or other data sources, it would be possible to develop a list of which cities are active and which are not, but for you individually, such a list would not be something to rely on alone...

    Van Damme Volvo ad... frightning

    CARB may loosen rules

The news story about this says that IFTA records will be reviewed when carriers are audited. Those recoreds are kept by the carrier, not the truck driver. If the rule change is made, we'll be hearing more about the mechanisms that will be used to enforce it.
