    D Units on the Highways

Problem we have here, this seems to be a fairly small >regional analysis. Maybe Ohio, West Virginia, North >Carolina. Probably not a real good view of the overall >picture. I agree. There is more to expediting than what any single driver sees on the road. Drawing conclusions about the...

It's the end of the day and you've gotten no offers. How many times this day have you contacted you

RE: Contacting carrier When I read your question, I was surprised to see that zero was not a choice as that was the answer that came to mind. Then when I read your post, I realized that you counted a VRU call as contacting the carrier. When I read the question, I did not consider an automated...

Turtle's post is an excellent example, a leadership example, of how to get information and questions onto the Open Forum without disrespecting another member or putting things in a way that become or might become negatively personal. I thought the word "residence" would suffice in describing...

    FECC Rumor Mill

Greg makes a good point. The ability to access our log book data forever is important. We use our log books at tax time to tabulate per diem deductions. In a tax audit, we would use log books to justify the deduction. The same applies for days spent in Canada (different per diem rate). Every...

    found a new drink

A while ago, and I don't know exactly why, I sat down in one of those blood pressure booths at a store and took a reading. When I announced the numbers to Diane, she said, "That's high." I brushed it off, attributing it to a flawed machine as I have never had high blood pressure in my life...

I think Dreamer handled this one well, and I know it is not an easy job he has. Turtle, your points about your information are valid. It would be a positive contribution if you reposted your info.

    Truck inspections.....

Phil, Thanks. What about a DOT roadside >inspection, would that count? (assuming you passed it). Say >you get an inspection in Jan. on your own, then in March you >get a roadside DOT insp. and pass it, are you good to go for >the rest of the year? I guess what I'm asking, since you got >2...

    Truck inspections.....

Don't know about the others. Our contract with FedEX requires us to get the truck inpsected by a certified inspector twice a year. Forms signed by the inspector must be submitted as proof of compliance. In other words, two DOT inspections each year.

RE: Sleeping while truck is moving and you are not Lady Tee & Big Pappa, It took us at least a month to adjust to the expediting sleep realities. There were times, and there are still times today, where we will go out of service to get a full-night's sleep in a non-moving truck. If you are too...

    Home Time

We have one planned trip home a year. That is for Christmas. Typically, the freight will take us close to home (Minnesota) a few times a year. When it does, we may stay for a few days or keep running, depending on how we feel and what work there may be to do at home. Other than our Christmas...

    Onan's "Revolutionary" New Generator

RE: Onan's Our Onan is wired such that electric power flows to the circuit where Volvo's head bolt heater would normally plug in. Instead of plugging a cord in there (the AC electrical connector near the driver's door), we flip a light switch in the sleeper that routes generator power to the...

    About This "Recession"

It is good to be clear about what one means exactly when the word "recession" is used. When I refer to a recession, I am using the textbook definition; which is, two consecutive quarters of declining gross domestic product. Alternatively, two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth. A...

    Unions, Expediting and Labor Day

The topic of unions regularly rises here in the Open Forum. I believe it is fair to say that union activists are met with staunch and broad-based opposition from the majority of Open Forum members that have posted their views. Labor Day is a holiday that celebrates the American worker. The...

    $#&*^% DARN IT!!!!

Greg, At Speedco, it is standard procedure to have the driver witness the torquing of the drain plugs, and to initial that you did witness it on the paperwork. When doing that in the past, I have had them show me the setting on their torque wrench before proceeding. None have minded the extra step.

If you turn down loads ,will your company fire you

RE: If you turn down loads ,will your company fire If you look at a load from the shipper's point of view, I believe you will find that most of the time the shipper is offering a fair price for the services requested. The shipper has something he or she wants moved from point A to point B and...
