    Interesting CR Unit (3 Photos)

In addition to getting current info from carriers, practical considerations also apply. Most people agree that a well-maintained class 8 truck will go a million miles or more. Can the same be said for class 7's?

Other drivers I have talked to with older trucks have reported higher inspection standards. Best thing is to talk to FedEx people and get the information that is then current and then correct. As anyone who has been with FedEx for a while knows, the rules and practices change from time to time...

Nationwide Roadcheck program begins June 5th!

Getting a badge number, time, date, etc.; and then writing a letter with this information to DOT would be an appropriate response. It would take some work on your part but help others too, both in the DOT and drivers on the road.

FedEx contractor literature specifies truck age limits. It is not automatic that an older truck of any class is, for that reason alone, disqualified. Inspection standards increase for older trucks.

    economy

Fuel from fat is another development that market forces may make attractive. See: http://www.conocophillips.com/newsroom/news_releases/2007+News+Releases/041607.htm Now, if they can take that the next step....invent a belly implant and home-use lyposuction machine that sucks the fat out of...

    a fireplace in your sleeper

    >Ateam... ya getting this down? > >-Vampire Super Slooth Trucker!!! Our 132" sleeper is small potatos compared to many. Morgan Morris's sleeper was 156" Glen and Jancie Rices' sleeper was 180+". If you look at the ARI web site, you will see ours is among the smallest of the sleepers shown...

    oil changes

I guess there are different kinds of owner's manuals out there. Mine does consider dusty conditions and specifies service intervals different than for "normal" conditions. Others I have read do the same.

    Looking to become a Expediter

Regarding your concern about "getting the miles," interview some fleet owners and ask them what kind of miles and revenue their drivers are producing. They will likely give you a range based on how their their best and not-so-best teams perform. Then ask what the best teams are doing to produce...

    Interesting CR Unit (3 Photos)

Two things most interest me about this truck. First, I imagine its short length and wheelbase makes it one of the most maneuverable expediter straight trucks out there. It would be easier to drive it in places like New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, etc. Second is the cost to build it...

    oil changes

Your owner's manual is the best guide, especially on a new truck where you want to keep your warranty in force. Develop a documented (receipts) maintenance history that follows the manufacturer's recommendations. If a serious warranty clame later rises, you will have the documentation to prove...

    Michelin Super Singles

This is good information. It will be very interesting to see what benefit super singls bring to your straight truck.

    Just a few Ouestion

What is a lot? No disrespect, RayJay, but people do not like answering that question. That is because you can put two different drivers in identical trucks with the same carrier and the results can vary a great deal...so much so that one may do very well financially while the other goes broke...

    tall load

As I read this, two items jump out at me that inspire feelings of pride. I am proud of you, Kevin_Sue. While being new, you had the good sense to call dispatch and inform them of your problem. I am also proud of FedEx dispatch for telling you to return the load.

Ham radio possibly saves a life

MARS...now there's a memory from the past. When in the Army years ago, I was a MARS station radio operator for over a year; A9USA at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Every weekday I served as NCS on a voice and CW nets. CW interests me most today for emergency communications. As Katrina showed...

    Building CR & DR Units

Three photos follow. The first shows a truck we had built but then rejected for a number of vendor-related reasons (that I will not go into in this thread). It shows a Thermo King UTS reefer on the driver's side. I asked why the reefer was not placed on the passenger side, but do not recall...
