Finally a carrier that works for their cut!

These are some of the most profound, self-responsible and self-aware words I have ever seen posted in the Open Forum! Bravo! :)

Is Truck Stop Customer Service Improving?

Being one to avoid truck stops more than stay at them, I am not the best-informed on this, but being pleasantly surprised by what I recently saw at a Flying J, I am wondering, is customer service improving as truck stops try harder to serve truckers and win business? The new pasta bar at the...

My advice to People thinking about van Expediting

Or, it may prove nothing at all. When we got into White Glove, there was no waiting list that anyone told us about. We had to do a personal interview and drive a fleet owner's WG-equipped truck, but that was it. At that time, we were not the only ones to get in without a wait. The market later...

My advice to People thinking about van Expediting

In an open forum, Greg, you don't get to post and then direct other peoples' replies. You disappeared from the open forum with no notice or explanation. I don't know why and do not need to know. I do know that you have not changed a bit since returning. You have something to say about almost...

    Odd ST configuration

Old habits die hard. You are right. Our truck has three axles. I am accustomed to saying two axles from before. Adding that third axle in the front made a dramatic difference in our fuel economy. The truck rides quieter too. :D

    How much experience?

    5.5 years driving straight trucks

My advice to People thinking about van Expediting

To say something like that, you have to be, well, um... without a clue. Priests don't need to marry and have children to be good family counselors. Fire fighters don't have to burn down their own homes to know how devastating a house fire can be. Truckers do not need to be half-burned alive to...

    Odd ST configuration

Heavy steer-axle Volvos are a myth. In 1978, Volvo's 780 came out heavy on the front axle. Since then, the front axle has been moved further ahead and the tanks further back. Weight-saving components have been built in. All other models were fine. All models being sold today are fine. There...

    Odd ST configuration

That's what I am getting at, the "at times" part. How does one decide the cost/benefit tradeoff of higher payload vs. the initial and ongoing expense of a second or third axle? Presumably, it has something to do with greater amounts of freight that is available and more money for more weight...

    Odd ST configuration

Outside the box thinking is a delight wherever you see it, if for no other reason than it makes you think. But I have to wonder about the need for a straight truck that can carry that much weight. Having been driving straight trucks for a while, Diane and I can count on one hand the time any of...

    Is freight on an increase???

I don't know about everybody but yes, we have seen an increase in offers in recent days. A few weeks does not a trend make but it is nice to see just the same.

Oh man! I just missed this. It would have been the perfect Valentine's Day gift for Diane.

the universe is almost in order

It would be intersting to go back and look at past quotes from oil company representatives when they explained why diesel had to be so much higher than gas.

    fuel surcharge LOL

Now there's an interesting thought to ponder. We too made more money when fuel was $5.00 a gallon. There was more freight to haul and more money went to our bottom line. How ironic is that?

    fuel surcharge LOL

Now you know what they meant when the recuriters said you could achieve your dreams as an expediter. :)

Introduction and in need of help

It's a moot point now since Schneider is not taking in newbies these days, but I would not be quick to dismiss them. When Diane and I were new, and before we discovered expediting, we researched companies and concluded that Schneider would have been a good company to start with, had we gone the...

Introduction and in need of help

Not to be unfriendly, but to be frank, you folks are too trusting. Trucking is a rough-and-tumble business that draws rough-and-tumble people who are not always the clearest thinkers when it comes to ethics and seeing how actions that make good sense to them may have negative consequences on...

To Those of You Still Standing

Thank you all again for your responses. I am finishing up the piece now. This is good stuff and I wish we could use it all. Sadly, we only have so much space to work with in the magazine so I must be selective. The thread does not have to end. Thousands of people read these posts and go to...

Introduction and in need of help

It is difficult to discuss contract language without seeing the contract. Whether the contract is too lopsided to be enforceable is a question. The company's duty to perform is a question. The reasonableness of the hiring delay is a question. The company's duty to mitigate is a question. USA...
