Is it really all that bad?

The fact is it's really slow. At least for me. If I had a truck payment and I hadn't planned for slow times I'd be out of business by now. Not just slow but real real slow.

    Dress Code?

I'm a little late on this issue but... I try to look neat, Pressed Jeans, Polo shirt with collar or Long sleeved shirt with button down collar. I refuse to wear shorts but that's personal. No-one needs to see an old man in shorts with white legs and blue veins.

    Where's da freight????

I'm with you guys. April was horrible and May just may be the worst month I've ever had. If I had a truck payment I'd be real worried. As it is, I sure don"t care for the hobby level wages I'm making at the moment. If things don't change, I will.

    I have found heaven

What's that old saying? If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. This sounds way too good to be true. The way business has been, I'd sure be interested if it was true....no strings attached.

    Bad Stop

This Flying J is on I75 north of Tampa. It has a Dade City or San Antonio FL address. Forgot the exit no.

DMW AND EXPRESS 1 GOOD OR BAD

I don't know anything about DMW but I ran for Express-1 for a while. I thought they were fine folks and very fair. The only reason I left them was miles. Much of this business is luck. (where you end up for the next load) My luck with Express-1 was very bad. Nothing ever seemed to click...

    Rookie Report

Man you really know how to enjoy yourself on the downtime. I sit around feeling sorry for myself because I'm bored. Keep doing what you're doing and keep reporting. I made some notes of my own from your post and I plan to follow up. Thanks for cheering up an old grumpy chubby guy.

    Meet Leo...

I'm sure I've seen that truck before. Anyway I'll be on the lookout for Leo now. It's nice to run into the people on this site and gab a little. It doesn't happen very often. I put TJ959 on my left storage door to see if I would run into anyone. So far it hasn't worked but it hasn't been on...

    Bad Stop

I've been in bad truck stops before and even crummy flying Js but this one really was BAD. I should complain because it ditn't come up to any sort of standard anyone would set. This didn't look like an older flying J either. I mean no-one had touched those restrooms in 48 hours.

    Bad Stop

I had the opportunity to spend the weekend in the Flying J in Dade City Florida ( San Antonio ???). I like the flying Js for their restrooms and showers. This one was not up to standard. By sunday night the drivers mens room was a disaster and 2 of three toilets were stopped up and...

how long are you drivers staying out?

I try to stay out about 12 days and back for a weekend. The problem is I really hate to stay out over a weekend if I'm not working. If I'm on a load there's no problem but I hate it when I sit all weekend. All you do is spend money and eat.

Anyone Else Get Trapped In Michigan?

I'm getting a little miffed but I don't know at who yet. I don't want a bunch of mini runs either but I'm having trouble getting any load in or out from Michigan. That's rather inconvenient since I live here. .... So who did I offend ?

    Fuel Island Desk C lerks

Stopped at the J in Beaver Dam OH before I had my courtesy card and was required to leave my credit card at the desk while I fueled. When I got my statement I found a charge for 3 meals ( large & expensive) on my credit card. Called and complained and found that a Flying J employee had used my...

    Whadaya think ???

That one looked good to me too. I like tose Aerocells and even some single wheel hi-cubes look like they might be fun to put a sleeper in.

    Hours

Actually my rule of thumb has always bee between 550 & 600 miles per day but I thought it would be a good idea to see how everyone else does it.

    I just checked out Hino

I know a guy that has used them in his greenhouse business and loves them. Seems to me though, that they have a nose only a mother could love. That's just a personal preference though.

    Differences Between FL70 and FL80

I was told the FL80 was supposed to be a class 8 chassis. I've parked next to one with my FL70 and I can't find much difference if any. Anyway they cost more. maybe that's the difference.

    PM's

I've used Speedco quite a bit. They are very convenient with locations all over the country. Must be a franchise though because I got had at the one in ElPaso. No cmplaint anywhere else.

    cargo van OTR drivers

I must be as old or older than you are. That flame job van brought back some memories. Back when that stuff was popular, I was still a motorhead (cars). In fact I'm still a motorhead. Just an old chubby one. I still can't believe what you guys can cram into a van and still carry 2 skids...

    Whadaya think ???

I've been thinking about this post and I think maybe I should have posted it on ask the recruiter so my favorite recruiter/safety guy could jump in on it. I'm a little (a lot) concerned since I've not been very busy in my "D" truck. I'd miss my 72" sleeper but the expenses would be lower if I...
