No, it's always been a max of two days layover. The only difference between units is the 10 hour reset straights and tractors have to do. If additional layovers were paid, it was probably a mistake.
Pretty sure Quido's right. That 4.6 was stroked to equal the horses put out by the 5.0 for the Cougars and Thunderbirds. Ford didn't have enough 5.0's to put in these models and the Mustangs, plus I seem to remember that there was a fit problem getting the 5.0's into the Cougar body style...
It was fun back then. I was working in a gas station and the owner and I souped up a lot of cars. Our pet project was a 1953 Corvette that we drag raced. Everything was mechanical, no computers.
