Saddest sight in a truck stop

I dunno. You know some guys might be happy to see that sight with their own truck. Lol

    Refrigerated 53' trailer

What kind of freight is Panther moving in those reefers? I seem to recall years ago when I was a company driver my company had some automotive parts from Clinton, TN that had to be hauled in temp control. I want to say to keep the parts from rusting or something like that? I dunno I never...

    OUT AND BACK

I guess not knowing what rates anyone is or could get with a van or even a straight I have to ask why the fear of deadheading? I will deadhead 300 miles or more back home like it is nothing. Camping out in truckstops or Wal Mart parking lots when I can be at home, no hesitation on what I will...

    OUT AND BACK

I do the out and back thing. Sometimes that means staying out overnight. And sometimes it doesn't make sense so I will stay out about 4 to 5 days max. I always get home for weekends as a general rule but will work the out and back freight for as much as I can when it's there. Some times of...

    Good News...Did you feel it?

I felt like May was a slight improvement over April on my lanes working spot freight with a semi truck 53' dry van. But it was a poor month overall. I read an article that the Cass Freight Index claimed the month of May was the lowest a amount of freight business in 6 previous years of May...

Getting a percentage instead of flat rate

If I'm doing spot LTL the delivery date will be determined by me. I'm sure though that many LTL companies offer different levels of service. Not exactly certain how that works but I do know they pretty much have set rates they go by classifications based on size and weight. And there's always...

Getting a percentage instead of flat rate

No. Not similar at all. LTL has up to a week to get where it needs to go so you can piece more freight with it. Expedite is time critical delivers ASAP so pays full truckload, actually better. Now a customer may decide to ship as LTL. Some LTL service is quick. I suppose there too you get...

Getting a percentage instead of flat rate

Lots of brokers try to pass off expedite for LTL. From what I've seen it usually isn't brokers who specialize in time critical services doing this. The carrier/brokers represented here on EOL that I have worked with aren't like that.

Getting a percentage instead of flat rate

I have a subscription to DAT Power and access to the company's ITS account which is also a broker's package (not just the basic ITS subscription). In the 5 years I have been working spot freight I have never bothered with what DAT or ITS said the average rates were on lanes. It never enters...

    Reefer Trailers buying frenzy

We always said, get it while you can. If it's really that good and you're talking rest assured others are working on getting in.

    Mother's Day gas spike?

Fuel (diesel) has been steadily rising for at least 2 months. I get text alerts daily on our network. Most weeks it's 3 or 4 days of a cent or few cents rise versus a day or two of decreases. It's creeping back up closer to the $2 a gallon mark on my lanes. Enjoy the cheap fuel while you...

    Panther vs Fedex Expedite

Some of you have very low standards. $1.70 is a lousy joke for semis but the catch there is we all know it is what it is in current conditions. Considering there are other regular freight options that can pay that or better depending on circumstance. I always questioned why anyone would...

    Freight apps ...

I have some friends in the TL segment who have tried Convoy up in the Pacific northwest. They shared some rates. Nothing to get jazzed about but not as bad as comparable rates around me, actually much better, although it was open deck freight so not the same. Not sure how it compared to...

    most boring piece of highway

I have always hated the entire stretch of I-81 across Virginia. Used to run it up and down it at least once, sometimes twice, weekly and did that for about 10 years. It's 323 miles of pure boredom with the occasional 10 mile cluster jammer tossed in. Talk about fun! I have been in the middle...

    Brokers

Not so much so with bigger players like GM, Ford, etc but sometimes with critical shipments in other segments you run across a shipper and receiver fed up with the nonsense that passes off as a broker or 3PL managing their trucks. People playing games unwilling to foster relationships with good...

    Brokers

If it's the CHR email list I'm thinking of there are a LOT more than just 20 carriers on it. I've seen the list when it was inadvertently sent out. They usually hide it. LoadOne is on it as are just about every other expedite carrier that advertises or doesn't in this forum plus a bunch of...

    Chrysler laying off 1300.

I'm a Ford guy but I bought a 3/4 ton 2007 4WD Ram brand new because it was the last of the "pre-emissions" 5.9L Cummins, it had a solid front axle, and I just always wanted one. It's a great truck. The seats are not the most comfortable in the world but I'm old school guy when it comes to...

    Health Insurance

For me it is cheaper to pay the penalty than to purchase overpriced Obamacare that covers nothing. What a lousy deal people like me have. We are forced to subsidize everyone else no matter what choice we make. My only option should I need any sort of medical care not covered by insurance, due...

    Stupid brokers

I talk to a lot of brokers every single day but I don't talk down to any of them no matter what I think.
