    Roll up to Swing doors

I have had 3 trucks with roll up doors and have no complaints. I spray some WD 40 or similar stuff on the rollers every 2-3 weeks, clean out the tracks once a month and have no problems. I like the fact that I can keep the door locked until I get on the dock so that Mr Indy Forklift Driver must...

    FedEx CC

Hey Vernon, curious to know how old C 2197 is. I drive D 2824 and it is a 1996 presently 6.5 years old. This year they gave me an extension (in writing) that would allow me to run the truck 8 years instead of the normal 7. I am going to start working on trying to get a 10 year deal. If this was to...

    Heath Insurance

I don!t know your age but $190 per month sounds pretty good to me. You could try the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) 1-800-444-5791 or another oufit similar to NASE is AFS,Americans for Financial Security,1-800-492-1016.I have Insurance on myself through them. My cost is...

    Freightliner Truck Brake Hoses!

I have to agree 100% with Larry in that Weave knows his trucks and at one time or another has given all of us valuable information on truck maintenance and repair guidelines. He has helped me in knowing what questions to ask my local Freightliner service manager. When I do a pre trip inspection...

    fuel surcharge

To furthur add to my last post is that the carriers add on a additional 1-3% in most cases to cover the additional fuel costs. Some customers do have contract tariffs that do not allow for any type of additional charges so if you are dispatched for one of those shippers you will eat the extra...

    fuel surcharge

Most carriers have plans in that when the cost of fuel spikes upward for whatever reason the additional costs are charged to the paying party, either shipper or consignee in the form of additional mileage charges. If you are an owner operator buying your own fuel the additional charges are paid...

    Becoming an Owner Operater

I am sure you have heard this before but try to figure your operating costs per mile and your fixed costs. Fixed costs are expenses that go on every day whether you roll 1 mile or 1000. Example would be to figure your truck payment per day, your insurance per day, etc. Operating expenses are the...

    Health and Medicine Question

I believe having extremely low blood pressure will keep you from passing a DOT physical.I know of a guy whose BP is less then 100 and he must get checked every 3 months. One important thing is to make sure any prescription medicine you take with you stays in the original pharmacy container with...

    Other T/A GM problems!!

Perhaps Lawrence can have a survey with comments about the major chains and forward the results and comments to these chains. My personal preference is for the LOVES Travel Plazas that you find in the lower Mid West and South West. Petro!s and Pilots would be my number 2 and 3. I have never...

    Other T/A GM problems!!

One night I was kicked out of the Flying J RV lot at Resca Ga. Nasty sob came out and said "You have to move now".I showed him a fuel receipt for $95.00 and a Frequent Fueler card and it meant nothing to him. I ponted out that I buy more fuel in a week then most of these rv folks buy in a month...

    Other T/A GM problems!!

Boy I have to agree 100% about the TA Chain. About 2 weeks ago on Sunday morning I noticed my left front tire was real low, showing about 30 pounds pressure. I park next to a U Haul facilty so they let me pump up the tire to 100 pounds. Two hours later it was back down to 80 pounds. Since it was...

    Interesting web site

I read that Tri State story. It really proves out that if you are an owner or a driver make sure you cover all possible situations in writing.

    plates

The cost of the plates depends on the miles you have run or plan to run throughout the US and Canada. I assume you will be getting apportioned plates. This means a certain amount of your registration fee will be paid to states other then Oklahoma based on the miles you have operated or intend...

    TST EXPIDITED SERVICES?

I don!t know anyone who runs for TST but last week I ran I 94/401 from Milwaukee to Toronto, then back from Waterloo Ontario to Chicago and Minneapolis. I saw 3 FDX CC units,1 TRI STATE unit, 3 Panther units ,some small Mom/Pop opeators but at least 15-20 TST units. That may tell you something.

    CDRP

This type of Canadian vs USA bashing really has no place or value on this site.None of us set Government Policies either in Canada or the US but we all have to live with them.I have no problem going to Canada and actually enjoy it up there. If you know the customs procedures and are prepared in...

    PLATES

Unless it!s changed Oklahoma renews vehicle registrations starting at the end of the calendar year.Your registration cab card should indicate a enforced expiration date of March 1. The plate stays with the vehicle, just the cab card (registration) gets renewed each year.hope that helps.

Maximum Legal Length for a Straight Truck

I believe agricultural type vehicles can be up to 60 feet long, but most states are at 40 feet.A while back North Carolina was starting to enforce the 40 foot law but stopped for some reason.

    Alternative to Rig Master

In the winter I use the Catalytic Heater that our Canadian friend Jim Bunting discussed about 2 years ago.You can buy them at K Mart/Walmat for about $45.00.One small bottle of propane lasts about 8-10 hours. They are designed for indoor use and other then a a flame used to ignite the heater...

Dodge 1 ton P/U with CTX

I can remember seeing CTX A units that were Ford Rangers with caps on them, also some guy used to have a Pick Up with a small RV body on it,and he ran for CTX. Frankly you are probably not going to get too much business with that type of vehicle. I havn!t seen a A unit in quite a while. I would...
