    Carrier cutting rates

After 8 years delivering in NYC, I wonder if Bison might not be a LOT more civilized :D

    Carrier cutting rates

Ken, at what point is enough, enough? You are entirely correct that we have to adapt ourselves to new realities. For most of us, it could mean driving a couple MPH slower, not idling even in a drive-thru, whatever. For Phil & Diane, it meant changing careers entirely, and for Hazmat it means...

    Carrier cutting rates

Mr. Gibbs, you fail to realize that your truck gets paid before you do. Every mile costs money. I'm a vanner so I cannot speak to what it costs to run a straight, but fuel alone costs you almost 40 cents per mile, not? Tires? Insurance? Payments? Repairs & maintenance? It's all there and so much...

FMCSA Says "Fung You" to Unsafe Bus Company

My fault; as thread starter I should've provided more details. See below: Feds revoke license for Fung Wah bus service | Boston Herald Surprise inspections by Massachusetts authorities found 21 coaches in unsafe running order, including eight with cracked frames. The FMCSA grounded these...

FMCSA Says "Fung You" to Unsafe Bus Company

News Release - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Amazing lack of regard for safety of passengers and public gets a Massachusetts bus company shut down. Good to see we're getting SOMETHING for our tax dollars :)

Implications of new 34 hour restart rule

Full disclosure here: I'm a vanner without a CDL, so to me a log is what you use to build a cabin. That said, I was thinking of the "sensitive cargo" problem Phil alluded to.

Implications of new 34 hour restart rule

I wanna know who the rocket scientist was at the FMCSA who decided that this break had to be taken off-duty. IMHO it should be loggable as on-duty-not-driving. I mean, really: Would it be that much more tiring to be on-duty while you're sitting in the truck eating your lunch & playing Angry...

    not all doom and gloom....:)

If you work from 0800 to 2200 every day, Mon-Fri, your restart window should be 2200 Sat till 0800 Monday, no? So you'd really only lose 24 hours (2200 Fri to 2200 Sat), right? Or can't you even open your restart window until 0800 Monday? if that were the case, that would suck something awful!

Due Diligence when choosing a carrier, especially for newbies

The whaaa? My diagnosis was in 1966, and I was 7, so I have no idea what the tests were called. I have memories of using a stereoscope to try to train my eyes. Then they tried the eyepatch trick, but I found it intolerable because they were using stick-on patches. Not only did the glue pull on...

Due Diligence when choosing a carrier, especially for newbies

Haha we're mirror images of each other :) . You'd mentioned before that you had eyesight issues, so I figured you'd chip in here :D Actually, I'm an old fart so I remember when cars didn't have mirrors on the right side; you were supposed to get along with the one on the left and the one on the...

    Driving position open

If it's .44 to each driver, yes. When the ad says "44 CPM split", I wonder if that means 22 cents to each driver. At 50 MPH, that's $11/hour. Not a big pot of cash, IMHO...

    Cargo Van Maintenance Costs

See my avatar; I'm not ashamed to drive a yellow truck :) And yes, it was one of Roger's Road Warriors before I bought it. The only part of a cube I'd paint would be the box, because the paint is faded and the shadow from the logos is pretty obvious. The cab usually looks pretty good, if you...

    Cargo Van Maintenance Costs

If I could pull the trigger on a new van today, I'd go for one like Hazmat's, or if my ship came in I'd get Westmicher to hook me up :) My current slop bucket is only 4 years old, so I'm in no rush to get out of it as of yet. However, the next one WILL be either a Transit or ProMaster, if I...

Due Diligence when choosing a carrier, especially for newbies

Amblyopia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Amblyopia can only be reversed if treated before age 5; I was diagnosed at seven. Oops. My right eye corrects only to 20/80; my left corrects to 20/20. My license is marked for corrective lenses (natch) and for "mirrors on both sides of a vehicle"...

    Cargo Van Maintenance Costs

Funny thing is, Mr. and Mrs. Average American would be stunned to know that you were even able to get a van to 650K miles! Especially with the original powertrain. Of course, they'd also wonder why you don't just buy a new one, nevermind that the one you have seems to be working like a charm for...

Any body having problems with a 2012 sprinter ?

That's because the emissions standards for NOx aren't as strict in Europe as they are here* (0.05 grams/mile for us vs. 0.29 g/mi over there). Also, they have higher cetane numbers over there (49 to 51, vs. 40 here) and they limit biodiesel to B7 vs. B10 or even B20 here. *Their HC and CO...

Due Diligence when choosing a carrier, especially for newbies

OK, so I'm finally gonna hit the road soon, on a part-time basis to start while I wean myself off my NYC gig. Don't ask for whom yet, 'cos it's not cast in stone. Which leads to my question: What kind of due diligence should an owner/operator, especially a n00b, do when choosing a company to...

    Question Regarding Whirlwind Express

As a n00b, I hafta ask: would it be worth even CONSIDERING signing with them now, after the F2F deal? That is, going forward, will Bill be able to keep them in shape, or is more pain forthcoming?
