Be careful what you ask for

Can you identify the Carrier you operate for?? That can tell you a lot.The large carriers have sales presence in the west and can generally get you something coming back east. The smaller ones usually concentrate their sales in ia regional basis.

I am a Best Western man.Just about all of them have guest laundries and the usual breakfast. Some have a computer in the lobby for guests to use. Vehicle Licensing

It is an additional cost and can be substantial. IRP is a registration for all of the 48 states plus any Canadian provinces you will run into with a commercial vehicle. I seem to recall you said you were going to run a D unit so since the GVW is over 26,000 pounds you must register in the other...

    Upgrade to "C'

If your total gross, empty weight and cargo is over 26,000 pounds you will probably need a CDL B license. Also most companies require C units to be dock high, can a Ford 350 chassis be built that way?

I will make one reply to this. What Tom did wrong was to identify the poster by his actual name. This could cause the guy problems getting employment down the road.I neither agree with the ex driver acusing Tom of illegal practices nor do I agree with Tom stating how the ex driver treated his...

    Posts

Over the last few days a heated and nasty arguement started between a ex driver and a small fleet owner. This flaming stuff is not tolerated on EO and the thread involving this was removed. If you can't keep it on a professional basis don't bother to post.

    too high?

My Humble opinion look elsewhere. There are too many posts on EO about the Cat 3126 giving out at about 400K. I have a Cummins C 8.3 with 793K on it and it is running strong, uses no oil, gets 11 MPG at 65 MPH and does the job. If you can get them to knock off 10 k on the price go for it.

    reliable truck

Interestering posts. in the past I have owned 2 Mercedes Benz units. One was a 1986 ,1117 and the other one was a 1991 ,1319.As Tom said you simply could not kill these trucks. They were designed to handle roads and conditions in Africa the Middle East Asia and so on. They were a bear to work on...

    Need help with choosing truck

Minor point but the turning radius for the GMC is much greater then the FL.Due to that long hood you need a football field to turn around in. I would go with the FL,dealer network is probably better then GMC.

what kind of chains and where do you buy them?

A couple of years ago I bought a set of chains at a Pilot in South Dakota. They were about $90.00. I have never put them on,have no intention of learning but as the previous poster said you MUST have them if you run the Western States in the winter.I also feel if you have to put chains on, you...

    Fowarded inspartional message

The Pilot Truck Stop in Beloit WI used to have a young man with Downs Syndrom working there. He kept the showers clean as a whistle and was alwys working keeping thimgs straight.I believe his name was Dave, and he would break out into a big smile when truckers would call his name and say hello...

    VP Debate

Watching VP Cheney and Sen Edwards go at it last night gave me a chuckle or two. It looked like Luke Skywalker was debating Darth Vader.. I also thought it was in extremely poor taste for the Moderator and Luke to bring up the Lesbian issue and telling all of the viewers that Darth's daughter...

    Pilot's Attempt at Highway Robbery

There was a law suit a while back actually instigated by the Visa/Master card people. They said a institution cannot discrimate in the price they charge to different customers. The lawsuit was against Pilot and Flying J. The credit card people said you must charge all customers the same price...

    generarors

If you are looking for just heat ,about 5 years ago one of our Canadian Moderators (Jim B) passed on to everyone what he uses to heat his truck. K Mart,Walmart sells in the RV section a samll Catalytic heater designed for indoor use for about $45-50. These heaters work off of a chemical...

    To the point

I would go with FEDEX CC or Landstar Express America. The CB channel for expediters never really got off the line, nowadays most people I meet up with do not use the CB very often.XM and Serius have taken over and in my case I only use the CB when in traffic or bad weather.

If I were you I would contact your State DOT Office and try to get official information. Also a DOT Physical location could probably answer that.Personally I think you can drive but I wouldn't guarantee it.
