Limiting prisoners to "the bare minimums to get by" won't do a thing to reduce crime, because criminals don't expect to get caught. What part of "it's been done already, and proven ineffective" do you not understand? Wanting to further penalize criminals is just like wanting to penalize the...

Nice article. There's one thing that bugs me, though: the statement that 3rd party payer [employer] results in higher costs because there's no incentive to control costs. Why is the assumption that people do nothing without an incentive? Or more accurately, why isn't doing what should be done...

If being deprived of the freedom to do what one wants [wake up, shower, eat, talk on the phone, spend time with loved ones] and being controlled 24/7/365 isn't enough of an incentive to avoid prison, I seriously doubt the loss of cable tv & everyday luxuries would make much of a difference...

I'm not a fan of Obamacare either, mainly because it's a huge prize for the insurance companies, while doing zero about lowering the costs of care & drugs. If the costs were not so outrageous, more people would have insurance, or just pay out of pocket for most of their care [as I do]. It's...

    Hillary gets offered a shoe.

You do know that "removing someone before he could do what he did" is exactly what our entire legal system is meant to prevent? It's called vigilantism, and we don't want it, for good reason.

As for the "can't wait to hear the liberal excuses" comment, I think the conservatives have some soul searching to do, because the 'cut taxes and regulations' mantra only makes it harder to apprehend and monitor criminals. Less income for government means less resources to get the job done, and...

Right: doctors never made mistakes before. Nor did insurance companies raise rates, and lie about the real reason. Like lowering malpractice rates to capture market share, attracting and signing up the least competent doctors, [the good docs being already covered], investing the premiums in...

In this case, it didn't take very many [idiotic] violations to shut him down: I don’t know anything about this case and have no opinion on it , however I do have an opinion on HOS violations and how they can be misleading. We are a car carrying operation in the NE. Our drivers run about 8...

Ooops - wrong thread, Zorry. It had me scratching my head for a minute, though, because 'wiring' could refer to thought patterns, too, right? I agree that if a light is on the truck, it should work. I'm just saying that non required lights are not supposed to be subject to a violation, though...

Re: Disgruntled FEDEX CC st8 truck drivers.....Where are they gonna go?? Landstar?? That says exactly what I think: the short term, pander to the shareholders perspective is not the best way to sustain a business. Or a country, either. And I'm going to be doing my shopping at Publix whenever...

Disgruntled FEDEX CC st8 truck drivers.....Where are they gonna go?? Landstar?? L1??

Re: Disgruntled FEDEX CC st8 truck drivers.....Where are they gonna go?? Landstar?? That may well be true, at least in part because those who have power don't generally give it a second thought, any more than you think about being able to walk & talk. Those who are affected by the exercise of...

Irony: we don't even need the law to protect against child sex abusers: 90% is committed by family and friends. We need to get past the embarrassed squeamishness [prudery?] that keeps us from talking openly and honestly about sex - especially to children & adolescents. And I agree that people...

Re: Disgruntled FEDEX CC st8 truck drivers.....Where are they gonna go?? Landstar?? "Everyone else is doing it" and "That's how we've always done it" are both incredibly lame reasons to keep being stupid, IMO.

Re: Disgruntled FEDEX CC st8 truck drivers.....Where are they gonna go?? Landstar?? You'll note that I said nothing about making changes that are not in the carrier's favor [that would be in lala land], just about undoing changes - which they have done. Because they turned out to have effects...

    Tired of being ignored

That last statement is one I've heard before, but if one is cited for nonworking lights, the LEO must cite which lights, which they can't do for lights that aren't required. Yeah, I know, they'll write it up anyhow, but a good safety department/person should be able to get it removed.

    April Fools & Showers

That's funny: going round & round is exactly what I'm doing here, lol. The last update: my cellphone was still on the Director of Airport Lost & Found's desk [as opposed to TSA's, or an airline's] this morning, and she has no clue who promised to send it to me last Thursday, either. After a...

Re: Disgruntled FEDEX CC st8 truck drivers.....Where are they gonna go?? Landstar?? Baby seals, like everything that's adorable, will never lack defenders - it's the rest of us who sometimes need someone to speak up in favor of civilized behavior. If not me, who? If not now, when? :confused...

A novel idea, it's not - it's been tried in numerous places at numerous times. If "penalties harsh enough to preclude the risk of committing the crime" were effective, there'd be a few places where crime no longer exists. It's also not soft hearted to acknowledge that harsh punishment can be...
