    Dealer can't read?

I found a small package LTL going intrastate. I did that with the rental minivan and got a cheap room for the night. I just got back into Orlando this morning.

    Dealer can't read?

He eventually told me that it was "another" serpentine belt. I think he really wanted me to pay that ridiculous price he quoted, but after I talked to him the last time, he was extremely subdued. I know what the man from Chrysler told him, but it worked and it changed his attitude fast too...

    Dealer can't read?

I'll try to make a long story blessedly shorter if I can. I'm here in Orlando. I was idling in a parking lot yesterday afternoon when I heard a noise in the engine and then the AC started blowing warm air. Then when I went to drive, the steering was really stiff. It appeared that the battery...

Where is everyone laying over this weekend

There are two belts that need replacing, and one is not in stock. I'm at an Autozone right now, waiting on the dealer to call me back with the part number to see if they have it.

    No freight!!!

If we can see any silver lining here, it's that these things are usually cyclical. If more carriers keep going out of business, the ones that are left when the dust settles are going to be sitting good. There won't be as much competition and when levels pick up again, those who are still in...

Where is everyone laying over this weekend

Currently "laid over" at the Dodge dealer in Orlando, waiting for them to finish putting on my brand spanking new alternator belt. Now the guy just came by and told me that the belt I need isn't in stock and they can't get me running until tomorrow. @#%$!!!!

    No freight!!!

It seems to me that a good strategy is to enact faulty policies that won't come home to roost until the next guy gets into office. That way your party can claim no fault in the whole mess, blame it on the next guy who happened to be there when it happened, and then ride the blame to victory in...

    No freight!!!

Companies don't pay taxes anyway. They just make up for it some other way, by passing the cost on to their customers or cutting other expenses, like payroll. How's that for trickle down?

Where is everyone laying over this weekend

I know all about those Wisconsin fish fries. I love walleye. My dad lives up near Eau Claire. Whenever I get a load to the twin cities I always go over his way after I drop out.

    dry runs

It doesn't happen too often with me. Compensation depends on where the load came from. The last one I had I ended up getting $150. I got the full rate for one once. That is NOT the norm.

Where is everyone laying over this weekend

Orlando, currently at a Wal Mart parking lot. I just got finished eating a decent seafood dinner. Company...me. I'm going to give it until Monday just to see if anything decent pops up and then maybe deadhead up into Georgia. I always seem to get out of Georgia ok. The only problem I have...

    How's Business Recently?

Well, from the independent side of things, it is slower than I would like, but I've had to get more creative. I'm currently on my way to Orlando (yeah, crazy taking freight into Florida) with a couple LTL loads on board. One had an ok rate on it and combined with the other I'm getting enough...

    Need Advice Guys!!!

You mentioned the cross dock being close to the ship yards. That comes in handy because when a contractor isn't performing up to standard, you have a ready place to fit out the concrete overshoes, being close to the water and all. :)

    Positive attitude

The loads going there pay pretty well, but it's hard to get anything out of there. You usually end up with a lengthy layover and it costs way too much to deadhead back.

    Go west !!!

The advantage of a Sprinter. You can idle in all sorts of places and nobody ever says a thing to you, even in California.

    Sprinter Size.....

In my experience the advantage of the Sprinter is the height. I haul a lot of tall stuff that can't go in a smaller van, a lot of good paying c unit stuff.

    Sprinter Size.....

I have the 170" extended, the long and tall one, and I don't have any trouble with city driving. It really handles like a smaller vehicle. That whole third skid thing is debatable. I have mine set up with 12' for cargo, but since I'm independent I get a lot of unconventional loads that use...

Anyone ever lose a load because they had a pet in the truck with them?

I don't have a pet with me, but I was shipping a dog once (got it off uship for extra fuel money) and I stopped in at a shipper to pick up an LTL and they told me that I wasn't allowed to take the freight with a pet in the vehicle. I showed the paperwork on the dog, basically making a case for...

A Billion Dollars, makes you think

How much will that buy where you live, a bottle of water?

A Billion Dollars, makes you think

You mean he hadn't been killed yet. A lot of us would have a problem with the word "was" there. :). All kidding and nitpicking aside, I agree with the premise here, that the government is really the last entity that you would want to trust to spend a large sum of money wisely.
