    Deadhead pay

As the previous poster said, deadhead pay is inconsequential in most cases. In my case I have been with the same carrier for 18 years,at that time deadhead pay to a D unit was .20 per mile and you ate the first 50. Nowadays with fuel up about 200% from then, deadhead pay is still .20 per mile and...

    Time to ask questions

If you can pass a DOT Physical it shouldn't matter what your age is.Last year a long time expediter with FDxCC passed away and I believe he was in his early 80's and his wife also drove and she was in her late 70's. There are many drivers that are in their 60's doing this work.

    Newbie questions (long)

Joe don't screw around with used components, buy a new or used truck that already has built in what you need. A 1979 International that has an unkown engine??How reliable do you think that piece of iron(Rust) will be for you.Don't take offense but shippers know trucks and they want...

Get it in writing before committing!

I did some quick and dirty math.Asuume 1500 loaded miles per week, comes to $653 at .42 per mile. Qual comm deduct leaves $623,fuel used based on 1800 miles per week at 15 mpg,at $1.75 per gallon leaves you with $413. Tolls may average in a van $35 leaves you with $378. I am not certain what your...

    This Is TooWARM!!!!!!

A while back someonce called the Dave Nemo show and said they came down with some bad respiratory ailments from the quality of the air through the outlet. He said the air quality reeked of tobacco smoke and so on. Take this load and.....

If you are operating totally independent you should call your shipper and explain the situation and ask for guidance. If you are running for a carrier call them ,tell them the situation and let them work it out.Thats what they get paid for, make sure if you are going to have to wait for several...

Keep in mind also that you are allowed on Expressways, you are not allowed on Parkways.Example is I 678 going into JFK Airport, this is also known as the Van Wick expressway, you are allowed on that. You are allowed on the Long Island Expressway but not on the Grand Central Parkway.

    Fuel Surcharges

You should get 100% of the fuel charge, anything less is grounds to quit.Perhaps you can ask a customer that you go to, what is the fuel surcharge that they are paying your company. Also I believe you have the right too see how much your comapny is charging shippers.

    Customs fine $5000

I don't run Canada very often but in looking at my Paps stickers I noticed that there are 2 identical numbers and a Filer Code box. Do you put one sticker on the in-bound manifest and the other one on the broker paperwork.Do you fax both to the broker? Who gives the filer code? Is that from the...

One thing to watch out for is that certain streets have length limits.I believe some only allow a maximum of 35 feet, also lots of low clearances. I agree with Tom,I avoid the area unless big bucks are involved.

    Weekend

Well it certainly was a wild weekend on EO with all kinds of posts flying back and forth. You know very few posts get locked or removed on EO because there is generally a lot of respect for each other. The other truck posts are full of flaming nasty replies etc that do no good at all.
