    the straight truck club

I should be more specific and sorry about that. I actually just completed CDL school in March, so had never driven. Company I work for requires 6 months OTR before you can drive solo. Insurance mandate, I'm sure.

Owners that hire solo ST drivers

My personal concern would be the present emphasis on team drivers. Must run solo when necessary beginner requirements are completed. This team thing will not last beyond that point. Really like my current O/O and company, but if the solo driver does not open up at the end of my time? Hopefully...

    the straight truck club

Late for the party? Just got a chance to get online and found this thread interesting. Been out for around 8 weeks now and two co-drivers. Think I'll really enjoy this once I can go solo. Must complete 6 months as a teamer before I can drive alone. This team thing is not for me and I can see...

    Newbie from Michigan.

Ditto on the motel. Don't mind the truck if we're moving, but it's heck (least for me) if your stopped and hung up for a weekend at the truck stop. Some look at it like your wasting 50 bucks of earnings on a room? Not me. I figure it's a night of relaxation and I got there for free. Matter...

A great way for Newbies to start...

Totally agree. Just finished a terrible experience with a co-driver who had no money starting out and it cost me money. Lucky to have a good fleet owner. Hopefully can team with someone solid in the future and begin learning from a trainer who actually knows expediting and trucking in general...

What does your screen name mean?

Nickname given by HS buddy. Tabbed again with it while in the military. Don't run with crowds and have a mind of my own......flawed as it may be.

    Three Week Veteran

Thanks Rocket. I'll take the advice on pricing and make a stop over there to check it out. Drive time is dictated by the insurance company of course, and I must get 6 months behind the wheel in order to drive solo. Co-driver has dropped me off at the hotel and the first week I was averaging...

    Three Week Veteran

Thanks for all the comments and assistance with scale awareness. I actually blew by 2 of them before I realized what happened and was lucky no one was there to run me down. Think I even pulled into a couple when I didn't even have to.......so this evens things out? As for truck...

    Three Week Veteran

Been a long time for posting and have the first leg of the journey under belt. Wow...did I learn a lot, while becoming a member here is considered most valuable toward my first weeks out. Ran on average of 3500 miles per week as a team, and though that's nothing phenomenal, I'm home for a must...

    How Many Filter Water?

Some nice suggestions and experiences so far. Seems people have given this some thought and know how it's done in many formats. Like redytrk, I drink water almost exclusively. Thanks for the many tips and tricks. Feedback is much appreciated and good to know I can fill up at the stop. Those...

    How Many Filter Water?

Used to running all drinking water through a gravity filtration system here at home. Ordered a small personal one for the road, and it should be here before hitting the expedite journey. Do most places/truck stops object to one filling a gallon jug of tap from the facility? It's coffee or H2O...

    Newbie from Michigan.

Hey fellow Michigander. Assume you're in the middle of orientation now? In Midland County myself and not too far away. Finally headed down south to meet up with straight truck partner this Wednesday. Spouse is already shrugging it off and says "show me the money".....or something like that. Been...

    headset (bluetooth)

Thanks Turtle. Went ahead and purchased the P20 and it will be here in time to try out before I hit the road. Reviews from truckers have it ranked pretty high, and near the same level as the Parrot. Came down to price and my overhead for schooling, supplies, etc did have a bearing. One good...

    headset (bluetooth)

Due to a slight delay in my start up as Expedite Driver.....I now have time to get a headset in here. Looking at the Zelher P20 as a serious contender for the Parrot. Cost is a slight issue and the P20 comes in at 30.00 less on the website. Just starting out and need a headset for the Samsung...

    Happy to be here

Hey Gang. I'm way behind, do to messing with this email all afternoon. Looks like my beloved Thunderbird will have to be used at home, something else for the road. Ya Dennis. Thought the Wolverine would be a good avatar. Steady, run long distances with occasional rest, and very determined...

    Still good people out here!!

Being a new driver has me hoping this is the case....at least on occasion. Always good to hear a story, whereby someone took the time to offer assistance while showing off the human equation. Seems to me this country has enough all about me people and anxious to run across some old school folks...

That could be the answer Ragman. Better leave it at that for a response....don't need the hard cores throwing things at me for now. :D

    Happy to be here

Well Hi JuJu! Your right, but I'm trying to hide my underlying ego, while professing humbleness in nature. Got so crossed up between Hawkeye and Wolverine.....it's the hybrid mentality here. Throw in the occasional Buckeye and see what you get? I can cut it to a couple of years with help. (but...
