Mississippi DOT, teach your security gaurd some manners!!!

I had a similar incident last summer, so I'm thinking they are training them to act that way. I did park across lines. There were only car slots to the right, so I pulled in parallel to the curb at the farthest end. I don't like to blindly back into traffic if I can help it. It was only...

    Sprinter Survey

And I'll add this. If you are not familiar with a particular style of vehicle, start out barebones minimum and grow into it. Try signing on with the minimum size and weight allowances then add capacity as you figure out how you like things arranged. eb

    Sprinter Survey

I've hauled three pallets maybe three times in the past year. A couple times more I've had two pieces larger than the space for two pallets. Only twice did I go over 60 inches high. Why not sign on as a two pallet capacity then see if you can arrange things to expand to three pallets...

    Question

I would be interested in hearing from other fleet owners and companies, since they're invested in the game as well. What is their definition of "whusses"? I'd like to see the definition in writing. eb

    Question

It's all in the gamble. For instance, if I got a load offer going into Maryland yesterday, I probably would have turned it down, because of the projected weather. The load I did get skirts the weather and has time built in, so I took it. I've lived in Alaska and the UP of Michigan, and I...

    Interesting load cancellation

All of this is one more reason you should be getting something other than the driver rate. eb

    Question

I try to avoid the weather by tracking it on line. If I get a load going directly into weather I make it clear to dispatch that I'm accepting the load on my terms and will stop on my terms. Going on four years I haven't been late due to weather. If I was caught buried in snow I would go oos...

Possible Dumb Question - Overweight Van?

The entire drive train would have to withstand the added stress. Can the vehicle also stop the load? A lot goes into designing a vehicle to handle the load that it is rated for. As for law enforcement. There are still a couple places that require vans to scale (like Florida). And dot can...

St Louis. Hard break. I took the van to the shop to check on transmission. It turns out to be a broken rear axle. It's not supposed to work this way. I'm supposed to be in service to grab chefdennis' loads when he is out of service. It's quite a lucrative way of running. Don't laugh. No...

    How old are your tires?

One thing to a van's advantage is that we will more than likely wear out the tire before dry rot becomes an issue, so we can continue to shop the discount tire shelves like we do the expired food shelf at the grocery store. eb

    Isolators

I've had a sure power model 1314 separator installed since the end of the summer. It works as advertised. Installation was simple. Note that I went the separator route. eb

Another consideration is that a long deadhead more than likely has a longer time to pickup. Long time to pickup gets the added risk of the shipper changing their mind and turning the load into a dry run. eb

    Layover Coffee, whats ur cup?

Zlatna Dzezva. The closest way I've found to duplicate it domestically is get the Arabian Mocha Java at starbucks or a good chocolate roasted, arabica bean ground at the turkish setting on the coffee grinder. The grind is key. It has to be the consistency of flour. Then it's brewed turkish...

Nevermind. Just as I slid into detention--dry run. Four days and a 310 mile deadhead for $66.70. And I cancelled a trip to visit a fellow eo team and see my neice off to school for this load. Don't anyone expect any favors this week. eb
