    Happy Thanksgiving!

I know this is a day late but we were with friends yesterday enjoying food and fellowship. I pray that everyone on this board had a wonderful Thanksgiving, wherever you were. Be sure to give thanks unto the Lord for His great blessings and mercy. He has given us much to be thankful for...

RE: Preacher I've seen several dual rear wheel cutaway box vans rated at 10,000gvwr. I have not see any with the attic over the cab. I would imagine you could have one built. The weight would be more, and certainly more than a Sprinter. You could always go higher than 10,000gvwr or use a Ford...

RE: Preacher AAHH! That is the BIG question, isn't it? Of course I don't see why not. As long as it is rated 10,000gvw or under and could load more bulk than a Sprinter, they probably would keep you fairly loaded and busy.

I'm Back...... After being Solo for 15 days

Hey Kswish, I'm glad you had a great 15 days out. I hope you have some good quality time with your family over the Thanksgiving holiday. I have one question. On your settlements page, in the final sttlement to you, is that after all expenses including fuel and food?

RE: Preacher If you could find or build a 10,000gvw cutaway box van with an attic above the cab, you could put the bunk in the attic and possibly have room for a toilet, shower, and sink. You would have to install some holding tanks and plumbing, but they can be found at an RV dealer. Just use...

RE: Preacher Considering the cost of a new or even a used Sprinter, I can buy a cutaway box van for almost half the cost of a Sprinter. Even if I get 15mpg in my cutaway van and the Sprinter gets 20mpg, is it worth the extra cost for the Sprinter? In the Sprinter you still have wheel wells to...

Just paid $1.81 for diesel today!

I'm still having problems with the reason for diesel being so expensive. Just considering the fact that the entire nation's commerce is dependent on trucks moving everything from steel to cereal, you would think that diesel prices would be substantially lower than it is now. At the very least it...

Just paid $1.81 for diesel today!

I was fueling my 1 ton crew cab flatbed hotshot truck. The spot where I fueled up was high enough to fit a 13'6" height truck underneath. With a WalMart gift card you get a 3 cent discount at Murphy's USA, which is located at many WalMarts and Sam's Club stores. Regular gas was $1.66 yesterday...

I still say it would be easier and cheaper to use a 15' Ford E-350 or GMC 3500 cutaway box van with pass through door rated at 10,000gvw. They aren't dock height but they don't have intrusive wheel wells to deal with. You could put a wall in about 36" back from the pass through door and build a...

    Nextel?

I used to be a NEXTEL commercial sales associate in a large metropolitan area. Nextel's nationwide coverage stinks. I would not recommend it for over the road or in rural areas. It is great if you are a local delivery or service business. My primary accounts were to automobile dealers. They...

    Items along the road

About 6 months ago I was at the corner Walgreens when I saw a pick-up with an 8ft. fiberglass step ladder in the bed race away from a green light trying to beat the other traffic before the road narrowed from 2 lanes to 1. As he nailed it the ladder slid out of his truck bed right in front of...

    Equipment Decision

Are you mainly hauling RV's to Florida, or are you hauling elsewhere? Who are you hauling for? Do you need a CDL? I could use some work between now and the middle of January. I would likely need to install a 5th wheel set-up. I'm only set-up for a gooseneck right now. I've seen Kaufmann and...

    Equipment Decision

I currently have a `95 Ford F-350 Powerstroke crew cab dually with a western hauler flatbed. I looked into RV hauling sometime ago with Jayco and it really didn't seem to pay very well. I also looked into hotshotting since I have access to a 40ft gooseneck trailer. It seemed as though there was...

    Equipment Decision

Thanks NoProblem! It is especially meaningful to me that I get my CDL-a. What I didn't tell you is that I was born with only one arm. To be more factual, I was born with an arm and a half. I'm missing my left arm about 2 inches below my elbow. In order to get my CDL I have to have two hands to...

    Equipment Decision

That was a BIG help guys! Thank you. I had a recruiter offer to pay me $0.89 per mile and keep me busy if I had a cutaway van with 14' box and under 10,000 GVW so that I would not need to log or scale. or even have a CDL. I am still going for my CDL-a w/hazmat because my schooling is being paid...

    Equipment Decision

Thanks NoProblem! That is why I am considering a 14' box van. It can carry 8 light 48x40 pallets. With 14' of load lenghth and 76" high, I figure I could get some loads that a cargo van couldn't, and at a higher pay. I have looked at Ford E-350's and Chevy/GMC 3500 series with a pass through...

    Equipment Decision

Thanks Glen! Car hauling has its drawbacks but they can be overcome fairly easily. Although the equipment costs are pretty high, I can usually locate good used equipment at a great price. Plus I have great connections with many car dealers here in Tulsa and in Oklahoma City, St. Louis and Kansas...
