    Most intersting Load so far?

The first load I transported with my hotshot rig (a week ago) was not that interesting but the place I delivered to was. I delivered a meat packing machine to a bison (buffalo) processing plant in N. Dakota. I discovered that they don't waste any part of the buffalo. Piled outside and behind the...

    Cargo van Info

A cargo van can have a sleeper as long as the GVWR is under 10,001lbs. Sleeper regulations do not apply to any vehicle under 10,001lbs GVWR. If you are expediting with a van, you'll want to stay under that threshold weight anyway so that you won't have to log.

    Questions about Driver's License Type

A standard driver's license with a DOT physical card would be all you need if you are between 10,000lbs GVW and 26,000lbs GVW, as long as there is no haz-mat involved. If you are going to haul haz-mat you'll at least a CDL "C" w/haz-mat endorsement. 26,001lbs and up you'll ned at least a CDL "B".

    Tulsa. OK

I was out at the local Flying Hook fueling-up my rig yesterday day and saw several expediters sittin'. There were Landstar and Panther D units, a Tri-State B and 2 Conway Now B units. Whazzup with that? I thought Tulsa was out of the loop? Did they fire-up the International bus plant again after...

WOW Joe! That is awesome! Could you send both the left and right doors down to me here in Tulsa by Saturday? I have a run up to Columbus, Ohio on Monday and they sure would come in handy! LOL! Crazynuff, The GMC 5500 series uses the same body as the 4500 and the back is not big enough to...

G'mornin Arky. The length of my trailer is 48ft including the gooseneck. It has a 40ft deck. The total weight of truck and trailer when empty (full of fuel with a 175lb passenger) is 16,420lbs. Hope that helps you.

    Sleepers, legal ?'s

I also thought of aftermarket rear crew cab doors that had a bulge in them to meet the DOT sleeper requirements. Perhaps fiberglass with no windows that utilize the existing hinges and latches. I could take out the back seat and put in a mattress. There could be a market for it. It could...

    Sleepers, legal ?'s

The short of it is this; If you are over 10,000gvwr your sleeper has to be 75"x24"x24". It has to be separate from the cargo area and easily accessable from the cab area. The sleeper also must have proper ventilation and an emergency exit door. You must also have an inner spring matress or 4"...

    Questions about Driver's License Type

I will add what I copied from the Q&A at the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Admin.) web site below. The law says that if you have a GCWR of more than 26,000lbs when the trailer is over 10,000lbs GVWR you must have a CDL. The important wording here is "more than 26,000lbs". What that means...

G'mornin' Mike. My truck is 10,000GVWR and the trailer is 15,000GVWR. I do have a DOT physical because it is required for anything over 10,000GVW. I was flagged-over at 2 scales on this last trip, once while loaded (Missouri) and once while empty (S. Dakota). Both times they asked me to bring...

First Load.....Trial by Fire! (pics too!)

Well, I got back yesterday from my first hotshot load. Went to New Rockford, ND. It's an hour and a half west, and an hour north of Fargo. I left on Monday headed to Oklahoma City from Tulsa to pick up what was supposed to be a 5000lb load consisting of a 22ft long meat packing machine and two...
