20 or 22ft Box for Straight Trucks?

It all depends. I had one load that was 18 skids/crates that only weighed 6000 lbs, 10 skids on the floor and 8 on top of the ones on the floor. I can legally put about 12k in my 22' box, single axle straight. Sent from my VS995 using Tapatalk

Thank you Sir. Enjoying my day at home, but a load won't hurt either. LOL.

Who knew? How to change your power steering filter

Thanks Linda and Bob. Here is a reason why I like to do my own maintenance on the truck. How many shops would have done what Bob did here? Like jacking up the front end and turning the steering to drain all the fluid in the system? Most likely they would have drained the tank, replaced the...

Cargo Van Sprinter 4cyl who has one?

Somebody I know had one. No problems until 325k miles. Then he needed a DPF filter. A year or so ago an alternator for a 4 cyl sprinter was about $2k. It should go down in price when the aftermarket kicks in, probably already did, don't know. Sent from my VS995 using Tapatalk

20 or 22ft Box for Straight Trucks?

Mine is a 22ft box. Only once I had 10 pallets in there with some extra space for my stuff. I don't know how many 12 pallets loads I would have taken with a longer box, but 22 seems to be good for me. Sent from my VS995 using Tapatalk

Talking about sprinters, I couldn't care less that there are not qualified sprinter mechanics on every corner. One time in 12 years and 775k miles I needed the services of a qualified sprinter mechanic and I drove 200 miles to one. I could have done without it and fixed it myself but I wanted it...

    True Net Income

In a van you are almost always better off claiming per diem and mileage. If you do mileage you can't claim fuel, maintenance, parts, etc. I've always done it this way and on paper I am not making any money at all. Sent from my VS995 using Tapatalk

Ah, it's part of the 'more' in the thread title. All's good. Wish you luck in the van business. I bailed last May and a happy camper so far.

"comfort level" of straight truck vs van?

It's not only the traffic, which there is plenty of at any time of the day, but narrow lanes, tunnels, bad roads, impatient people cutting in front of you, and I am sure there are a few more.

    Age of straight truck

My truck is a 2004 and I missed 2 loads to California (they want 2007 or newer,) but who cares. Other than that, I don't know if I missed any, there is plenty of work for me. Sent from my VS995 using Tapatalk

"comfort level" of straight truck vs van?

I drove tractors before, vans from 2005 on and straight since may 2016. For the first month I was a bit on the edge, you know, new world...but now I am just as relaxed as driving my van. Of course, I have to be a bit more careful, but it became second nature. Doing 2 runs in the first month...

Finding good drivers is not that easy, especially in the van segment. And if you find a good one, more than likely he wont hang around too long since there is not enough revenue to split 3 ways, owner, van and driver. I read countless stories about vans abandoned 600 miles away from owners...

New Federal requirement for CDL drivers

Not a big deal. The big deal for me is the stupidness of the people. Let me explain. Last year I renewed my drivers license in TN and I jad to provide a bill for residency, a passport for citizenship and something else that I can't remember now. Easy peasy, done. I dropped my hazmat because I...
