What do you like and dislike?

I think new mexico is a beautiful state. What I do not like about new mexico dot is you need your own specific tax id permit just to drive through new mexico when all the other 48 states use just a cab card.

What do you like and dislike?

I like flyin my own flag. I do not like the log audits and fmcsa inspections. I also dislike the rules and regulations. But they are there for a reason more or less. Ohh and I hate new mexico and california

    The Inevitable Begins

Hmm well that stinks. One reason why I fly my own flag instead of signing on with a carrier is I have more options when it comes to finding loads. That and I am not limited to just straight truck loads. Right now I am taking a very expensive Rv to california and its paying real nice. Then if I...

Do you really need a hazmat endorsement?

When I use to drive for werner I had hazmat because they required it. Now that I fly solo hazmat is more expensive on my automobile insurance and cargo insurance policy. So I dont haul it. I haul everything under the sun that isnt hazmat and cant fit on a sprinter or fit in a big rig

    Authority?

You need the Authority and motor carrier whole 9 yards when dealing with brokers. If you use a website like uship depending on the item someones shipped they may or may not require you to have one. With uship you need a mc number and us dot number.

    new hot shot venture

Why not go with a freightliner sport chassis. You can pull heavier loads vs using a 1 ton pickup truck. I run under my own authority but I scour load boards work with several freight brokers and I haul for a fedex hub based out of walker michigan. The fedex hub pays the truck payments and fixed...

With fedex ground I answerd an add in the paper that they were looking for contractor intown drivers. I had to give them a list of what equipment I had and all my insurance information. Fedex ground contracts their home delivery and line haul drivers. Fedex express are company paid employees...

Went from a 1 ton dodge pickup to a Freightliner rhl185

It uses displacement on demand. My truck when driving on the highway will run on all six cylinders. When sitting idle it only runs on 3. The chrysler hemi engines in the dodge charger and magnum have a similar means of saving fuel. The dodge I use to own did not have that feature which is why I...

Went from a 1 ton dodge pickup to a Freightliner rhl185

It is a step up in size. I can haul up to four f250s or a 48 foot cargo trailer with ease. With my one ton dodge it took for ever to get going down the road and limited living space. I haul mostly cars and contract with a fedex ground hub. With fedex I transport what cant fit on a pup trailer...

    non expedite freight?

Well for one I don't drive a semi. I drive a freightliner m2 on steroids and I have an enclosed auto transport trailer that can fit two cars or general freight as long as point b has a loading dock low enough for me to back into. Also its easier than you think to run under your own authority...

Went from a 1 ton dodge pickup to a Freightliner rhl185

Rides nice the power is great. The best part now I dont have to spend money on hotel rooms:D Use to use the dodge pickup to haul cars and general freight. (General freight primarly fedex ground packages) The new truck is sweet, I had an upholstery shop take out the back seats and turn the back...

    non expedite freight?

I use several brokers to get my loads. I haul everthing else that doesnt fit on a truck. UPS pays pretty good when they run out of trucks to haul their freight. Fed ex ehhh not so much. The post office is pretty consistant if you contract with them.

I just doubled my trucks blue book value

Why not get a smaller truck? Do you use a straight truck or a regular semi? I know a few owner ops who went to freightliner m2s and haul more smaller loads.

I just doubled my trucks blue book value

I went from a 1 ton dodge diesel pickup to a freightliner rhl185. The dodge got 9 mpg and dual 20 gallon tanks. The freightliner I got now has 1 60 gallon tank and gets 11 mpg under a full load. I mostly haul cars with an enclosed trailer or a flat trailer. I notice a difference in fuel mileage...

Remember the days of being a company driver?

In Michigan they are making trucks that only do deliverys in michigan have an mpsc sticker and usdot. This is totally seperate from having to go beyond state lines. They are trying to get every dime from people who use commerical trucks. I can see my bosses point to a certain degree but...

This company in michigan has two one ton box trucks and two 3/4 ton vans. On friday I made 3 deliverys from Kentwood mi to the east side of the state...
