Looking to buy cargo van or sprinter. Any particular make/model?

I agree Ken, my unit can only legally haul 1800 pounds. I seem to make a good living hauling freight way below that weight. It is a shame that there are those that will push the limit all in the name of money.

Looking to buy cargo van or sprinter. Any particular make/model?

I know most E rated tires (10 ply) I have seen are rated at 3400# plus at 80psi. That is well above most van GVW's. I personally do not load over my GVW or axle weights. I know a lot of van drivers do not look at there axle weights, like those that will haul a 3200# piece leaving it on the...

    Sprinter vs cutaway van?

I think they do for the most part understand the GVW of the vehicle, they are just overloading it figuring they will not get caught. Most drivers I have talked to that admit to hauling over gross, said they did it knowingly because they knew it would be a slim chance they would be caught and...

Am I killing my diesel sprinter by letting it idle?

Turtle for some reason in big trucks that is how you set the idle. In all 3 of my Class 8 Freightliner's I drove that is how you did it. Flip the cruise toggle on and then bump the set/resume toggle till it got to your desired rpm.

Am I killing my diesel sprinter by letting it idle?

With no cat or muffler my exhaust sounds like a 747 taxing the runway @ 1200rpm"s!! Sounds like the thing is taking off @ 2000 :D I love the way it sounds when the vanes are closed on the turbo!!!!

    Sprinter Business

So true, a lot of dock workers think it is cool, because they do not know everything the job involves. You just drive that little van around and get paid for it, no boss that must be awesome  They don't realize that I just sat for 2 days in a super wal-mart parking lot (for free)...

Am I killing my diesel sprinter by letting it idle?

Wow that is HIGH, I would not want to be parked next to that van  I can see where a espar would pay for itself in less than 1 winter, if you had to idle that high. I got a espar because I could not stand the ecm controlling the rpm's up and down all night when the outside temp was below...

    Sprinter vs cutaway van?

Greg I am with Marty on this, why should they have to log if they are to be paid more?? I see it as a smart decision to buy a cube or sprinter so you can net more on C loads. Net is what is important. If a sprinter picks up a 52" tall piece of freight that weighs 100 pounds and pays C rate...

Am I killing my diesel sprinter by letting it idle?

What is your cruising rpm @ 60mph. Mine is 1830rpm. I am just curious.

    Over weight on axles

When I drove a T/T I loaded out of Campbells with a heavy trailer. They have you scale on site there but there scale was off. I got the first scale house on I-95 and I was 1,115 over on my tandems  I was 33,850 when I left Campbells on my tandems. I showed the officer the weigh slip from...

Am I killing my diesel sprinter by letting it idle?

I am not doubting what the tech told you, but 2000 rpm's that pretty high. I don't even have a cruising rpm that high heck I don't even accelerate that hard. 1/4 throttle is all she needs!! I would suspect any one driving for economy would not be having there engine spin that fast.

    Sprinter vs cutaway van?

I don't know what you are asking. But if the freight is longer than 96" wider than 48",taller than 48" or weighs more than 2500 pounds it "SHOULD" be paid as a C rate. Some carriers do not do this, I know people that haul C type freight in sprinters at van rates because that is all there...

Am I killing my diesel sprinter by letting it idle?

I know GM sets the high idle switch at 1200rpm. I had mine turn down to 1000. If it gets cold enough the ecm will raise the rpm to as high as 1200 for heating and emission function. The only idling I do is when it is below zero. I idle for 30 mins every 4 hours to keep the fuel warm. This...

    Over weight on axles

Correct always the drivers fault. Also some states allow you to be over on a axle by as high as 200 pounds as long as you are not over your total gross for the truck. I know CA. allows 200 pounds over on any axle as long as you are within there king pin law and do not exceed your total gross.

Am I killing my diesel sprinter by letting it idle?

Turtle how much boost are they requiring at idle for a sprinter?? At 680rpm my boost is .03 pounds when the truck is a operating temp. If I hit the high idle it stays the same. During warm up the vanes close on my turbo and it only goes as high as 3 pounds during warm-up, but that is...

Am I killing my diesel sprinter by letting it idle?

I wonder if you can install a EGR block off plate and delete the dpf. I know on a GM and Ford diesel you can. On my D-max I removed the CAT and muffler. I also have the EGR block off plate in the truck just waiting for my tune so I can install the plate this week. Since I have a 06 I do not...

Nothing you can do about the weather, just got to go with the flow. Had I never been up there or if it was worst I would of stopped and waited till day break, They understand the road and weather conditions up there and they do not want you wrecking your truck and damaging $75K+ worth of...

Be very careful I dropped one town to the west last night (Mont-Ste.-Pierre) and QC. 132 was covered with ice from Ste. Anne des Monts. to where I went. Also NO cell phone service east of Ste. Anne des-Monts. also make sure you fuel in Matane or Ste. Anne des-Monts. if you have a Diesel. NO...
