I'd recommend leaving the slats also. Makes the side walls more rigid, less of a chance of denting the aluminum on your box. If you want to use plywood just put it over the slats. Just my opinion :)

Lots of places use the tape especially for cargo vans that have no place for a seal. We used the tape at Brinks when we loaded the trucks. If you tamper with the seal you will be able to see it
