Favorite Truck Stop & Eating Place

There's a ton of places I could say... but I don't have my battered, torn-pages "Next Exit" book with me. As for regular places like Cracker Barrel and TGI Fridays... and the chain resturants... they're pretty much the same every where you go. Same interior, same uniforms, and usually the same...

    Nation's Express

Nations and Tri-State run alot on I-26 in SC. As does PII's various kinds of trucks, those are the co.'s I see the most here in my travels.

    Dump trucks

Just picked up the most recent copy of the Truck Paper... if you're interested... There's a 2007 Pete Dump truck in there for $147,000. It's sharp and mean lookin', but for that price it better be.

    CBs

Depends on where you are and where you're listening to the CB... big cities generally bring big idiots, as do truck stops. You can count on hearing CB chatter at a larger and/or more well known truck stop than just a regular rest area or exit. CB's on at nite time, in low traffic, esp. past...

    Dump trucks

He's down there in Sheveport, Louisiana... seeing 10 axle dumps is very rare down in the south. Most are 3 or 4 axles... some push it with the rare 5 or 6 axles in the south... but it's very rare to see that.

    hey

No offense to him, but I gotta say this on a lighter note... following some of BamBam's posts has been... humorous and interesting to say the very least.

    Truck Show

Don't forget to throw in that the stadium usually has OOIDA members throwing a big party with free food. Drivers with drivers, it's fun! The stadium is all paved... watch curbs, trucks with longer wheel bases have trouble making the 1st couple turns into the stadium.

    Dump trucks

In my experience with them... dump truck beds vary... some are equipped for soil, some are ready for big rocks (boulders)... some are great for sand and gravel... ask dump truck co.'s about that... perhaps if you have a truck, bring it by and talk to a dump truck co. owner. I know sand can be...

    another new driver

it's rare to hear somebody get excited over a 48" sleeper, a double bunk at that... I sure hope he's either solo or really close to his team mate... and the 3126 Cat... well, I'm sure somebody will pipe up about that. The 24 foot box is nice, that explains the sleeper size. The lift gate adds...

    Tipping the mechanic

Most on these boards know what I do primarily. Customer Service is very Very Important to me. I give it, and I expect to recieve it. Often times, I'm a waiter with a steering wheel. Good service gets good results. Driving trucks I rarely tip, but coming from local delivery work into...

    One of my dumb moves

Ever put those products to the test in Love Bug Season in the South East??? I'd be real curious to see how they hold up to that abuse. I do carry my own squeegee, that way - like it was mentioned above... one doesn't have to worry about diesel juices or metal particles in the sponges.

    Missing the road

I can understand, I'm having a tough time lately with my new marriage and a baby on the way and her mood swings. She thinks I love the road more than her, thinks she doesn't make me happy... it's been rough. I'd like to come off the road and do local work, but it's been tough to find what I...

    Truck Show

Not sure if I'll make the truck show this year or not, more than likely not... due to a 2 month tour that'll I'll most likely be runnin' across Canada in a private coach. Don't know the name of the group, all I know is it's a Christian rock band... so I'm told there won't be any smokin' or...

    Scania Trucks

You'll also tend to see some Scania's in Eastern Canada, in Quebec especially. They use them extensively in European countries, over there Scania is like Freightliner or KW over there... they're popular over there.

    Pilot is Towing Trucks

I believe I wrote "Parked at the fuel island" Period. Time yourself the next time you go do all that... Fuel up about 200 gallons. Then take your "leak". While you're at it, grab a coffee. Before you walk out that door, Don't forget to pay for fuel. Maybe, just maybe, there will be 6...

New york city!!! pass the grits

Even if you did fit, The Queens Mid-Town Tunnel is also the most expensive tunnel. At 15 bucks for 3 axles. The Lincoln and Holland Tunnels are about 3 bucks.

    Truck Show

I'm hoping to go again this year as well. I really enjoyed it last year. I parked in the mud into a corner spot, up on a bit of gravel. The last day pulled outa that lot and drove a couple blocks over... I went over to the stadium and got to talk to OOIDA members who put together a HUGE BBQ and...

    One of my dumb moves

What I do is take a bottle of windex (or similar cleaner) and spray down the windshield before I begin to fuel... let it soak in while you fuel... check it and maybe spray it again while fueling. I have my own squeegee that I carry and it's the telescoping kind you get at Wal-Mart. Great...

Best used Tractor for the buck? 30-35k

I've driven both the Century and the Columbia. There's different options you can get with them... and I'll touch on that in a moment. As was explained above in another reply, the only major/main difference between the 2 trucks is the front clip, look at the headlight set-up of both and you'll...
