    Rookie Van Driver Questions

In my opinion, you don't have enough time in. But you have to do what's best for you. We are getting ready to come into the slow season in about a month and a half.....so keep that in mind. Recommend you save up, and plan for at least the next few months. Then see where things are at regarding...

    Potential Newbie Insurance Questions

Had CIS for many years. They are ok. Like to raise rates for no reason though.

    Do i need Dot/mc/insurance

    1. Dually expedite trucks are horrible on fuel. Which will cut into profits. It's true they can be used to haul more weight however you are required to stay under 10,000 lbs. Some people overload such vehicles while operating under the premise of the under 10,000, but one time getting pulled...

    New to expedite

Sign on to a company that is taking on van drivers (not as an owner op) Get experience and learn the business.... Then become an owner operator.

    We are looking for owner-operators

Motivated owner operators are everywhere, but freight and companies that actually deliver on what they promise are few and far between. Definitely need to post more information if you want any bites.

    Cargo van size and year

It sounds like you don't have any experience in van expedite. So my advice to you is to not purchase a van but instead find a company to drive for. Most major carriers have contractors that are usually looking for drivers. Do that for at least a year to learn the business. That being said...

    Words of Wisdom

Oh I absolutely agree on that. We were all new at one time. My first expediting job was in a POS Chevy 3500 express. No AC, No cruise. No amenities. All that owner brought on was new people. She had that revolving door policy because of that. I eventually moved on to an owner who had a nice...

    Words of Wisdom

How one gains initial experience is on them. If all you do is hire from a pool of individuals who have no experience in this business, you're just going to have a revolving door. Which is not what any company wants. Because the realities, the stress, and the general expectations that are usually...

You do not want to hire an individual who doesn't have experience in this market. That being said.... You sound like you know what this market consists of.... So

    Cargo van size and year

You may find some freight with a standard size cargo van, but it's not going to be worth much. The individuals who have posted, have recommended a taller van. That means a van taller than the standard 48 in. Best to heed their advice.

Better times to go back to expediting? (Straight truck)

Garbage garbage garbage. If you have experience expedite you understand what I mean.

    Returned to expediting

No reason to get testy..... Just pointing out the obvious. I have a feeling that you think you know more than what you really do....as well as know what to expect when you don't. Especially whenever it regards expedited freight because it's a completely different world than traditional...

    Returned to expediting

Well no offense, but if you've been out of it for a while.... It's just like starting out new. Sure you might have some experience.... But if it's not recent, you really have no idea what to expect as far as the market goes. Rates are significantly lower than they were 5-10 years ago. Not to...

    Newbie

Not to be mean, but it's like it was said previously. You are nowhere near ready to get into this business. Have to eat your vegetables before you eat your steak. Find a company like Bolt Express or Panther, who have owners who are always looking for contract drivers. Sign on with them and...

    Bargain vans coming from Amazon?

It's only going to get worse. I have a feeling in a couple of years, those retired blue Amazon Vans will be considered what the retired yellow Penske Vans are these days.

    Returned to expediting

Woah woah woah.....slow down. Lol Ok, there are a lot of things you need to factor in before worrying about things like TVs and after market airride. 1. Where are you planning on getting your freight? Are you planning on trying to use load boards or contracting your Vans to another company...

    Need help please!

The problem is, most companies want you to be able to carry three pallets....and be willing to do hand unloads if it is required. The ones that don't care are usually the ones where you're not going to make any money. IE: desperate ones. I've also noticed that companies are starting to dictate...

    New expedite van

But we aren't talking about semis or straight trucks. Lol You're right though. I don't know the ins and outs of that side of the business outside of what people I know tell me. Most individuals I know in the trucking industry drive semis. From my time in, I've learned that if rate is garbage for...
