    Very well stated.

Ok Everyone, LET ME HAVE IT! Poor it on hard!

IMO the truck drivers that should be "washed out" are those talking on the cell phones while driving, those who stay in the left lane for 9 miles going 66 trying to pass a truck on the right going 65 (though the guy in the right could help out too by slowing down some), & so on. I've already...

    Fees you carrier charges you

No fees here, which obviously I like. I've been with companies that forced workmans crock down our throats. That one is the one that peeved me off the most. I don't recall the exact numbers but the general idea is accurate. To make workmans crock insurance pay for itself, I would have had...

Ok Everyone, LET ME HAVE IT! Poor it on hard!

Overall I'm w/ Yesteryear on this. I think she got boned in a lot of ways. I do agree she should have dug a bit deeper into the non-working light issue at the TA. Overall though, she put her faith in people/company that she liked & took a bad truck. Ok, maybe that wasn't the best decision but...

    Some honest questions about FSC

I absolutely agree w/ this. I run mostly local. I've had some 45 mile runs that paid $90 & a few others that paid $75. Not all of them are like this mind ya, but I don't care how it's broken down. If they wanna say $2/mile & no surcharge that's fine w/ me. If they wanna say $.50/mile &...

    Premium Transportation Logistics (PTL)?

John has been a speaker at the Expedite Expo for all 10 years, plus a featured speaker at The Expediter Workshops for at least 5 years. Plus he was the first company person to participate in the new and upcoming community called ExpeditersOnline.com back in 1999. And not only that, way back in...

    Premium Transportation Logistics (PTL)?

I don't see what's so great about em. They wouldn't even let me set up a poker table/casino in the back of my truck.

    Carriers' view on van windows

True, but there's trade offs here. If they want the freight bad enough they can simply break in the front door & unlock it like that. Or just take the whole van. IMO the van would be a lot more compromised by getting into an accident because someone was in your blind spot. Yes, I know...

Experienced courier, but green at expediting.

Along these lines, when I've hit the truck stops & talk to the truckers on their computers, one thing has stuck out. The most common thing these guys are looking for on the internet isn't porn, but looking for other jobs. A lot of truckers out there aren't happy campers.

    Carriers' view on van windows

I would think most carriers wouldn't really care. You'd obviously have to ask each individual carrier though. Personally I like having windows in the back of my truck. The more vision the better. It's not difficult to cover em up if you're parked somewhere. Once I start driving though...

Experienced courier, but green at expediting.

This is very well stated. I have no interest in a CDL A, but at one time I did & looked into it. From friends who have one, this is the way to go. Pay for your own & you're not committed to anyone except yourself. He's also right in that there's student loans if ya so desire. Good post here.

Experienced courier, but green at expediting.

I've done both. For what you seem to be looking for, a courier would probably be a better fit. In terms of $$$$$, when the going is good expediting is probably better than being a courier. A good week expediting can be $2,000+. A good week at a courier might be $800-1000. There's trade...

    Verifing Income

I'd try a credit union. They give a lot more leeway on that kind of thing. I'm not promising it's a sure thing that you'll get a loan, but a credit union would tend to look at your paychecks, see if your bills are paid on time, etc & decide from that than a bank would. Again, this is no...

Things that bug me I see other drivers doing dangerous !

All the above listed + one other one comes to mind. When a semi takes miles & miles to pass another one. If a semi can only do 66, don't pass someone doing 65 if it's going to take ya 7 miles to get by the other one. Or, the guy on the right could slow down some & let him pass. I do that...

CVs only: questions when signing on

I wouldn't rule out all satellite. I used to hate em too. I still think QC is expensive for what ya get. That's an opinion not everyone shares, but I agree w/ you on QC. Some companies though, will let ya use Sprint/Nextel GPS. That's only $15/month & well worth it. The first run I got...

Signing on with more than one carrier

Here's my input. I've tried it with 2 carriers & it didn't work so great. I've tried a few times w/ different carriers. Ironically one of the times I signed on w/ Jefferson as the 2nd carrier. No hard feelings but that lasted less than a week. It didn't work for him. I've tried a few...

what is the word on loads for cargo vans?

This is a tough one to answer. It's going ok. July09-Feb was brutal. Feb-now has been ok, but not great. I'm better off now than I was in Febuary though. So it's gotten a bit better. The thing I'm starting to realize is it may be quite awhile before things are as good as they were say 5...

Would you still do this job if you were paid by the hour?

Unfortunately they're not stupid. They're smart & they're crooks. They keep stealing our $$$. We keep letting em do it. All we do is call em a few names & they keep ripping us off. They're not the ones who are stupid. Basically a politician in DC lives like a king & for the most part...

    10 miles, $140

This actually brings up a good point. This is a Q to anyone who'd care to answer. Do these runs ever interfere w/ longer runs? While it's a sweet little run, in the end it's not a lot of $$$ total. If ya could get 2 or 3 per day obviously it would be a no brainer. Or if ya got it early in...

    10 miles, $140

I realize these types of runs are rare, but just wondering how often do ya get these kinds of little gems.
