Home Time Didn't Work - DH 2200 miles UT to NC

Thanks for your comments, Wayne and Chrissie. I'm sorry for your experience. That's what I was after ... other's experiences. Tony

Home Time Didn't Work - DH 2200 miles UT to NC

Yeah ... we keep a close eye on our expenses ... and we made enough to make expenses and pocket some money. Not enough to do every week, but I remind myself that this was opposed to staying home all week with no income at all. So, a little is better than nothing if the income is all that's...

Yep ... that's about how I see it, too. Good advice. Thanks, Tony

Home Time Didn't Work - DH 2200 miles UT to NC

One must consider the time constraints. It's a D truck, no reefer, we like to stay under 10,000 lbs. We were in SLC Wed. and had to be in NC Sat. The Barstow load delivered Thurs. around noon. The last time we were in LA, we sat for 5 days having arrived as 5th out. We've been to LA several...

Home Time Didn't Work - DH 2200 miles UT to NC

Yep ... good advice. We did make money for the round trip, but was it enough to justify leaving home ... where we are so seldom and have much to do <g>? I think now it was a mistake to leave home for this pro and dh 2200 miles back ..., but it did pay us something over all. Tony

Home Time Didn't Work - DH 2200 miles UT to NC

That's one way to do it, but we do look at pay per mile, loaded miles, and also miles including dh, and then also over all truck miles ... and then we consider fuel, fixed expenses, and moving expenses. But yours is one way to look at it. We were only offered one load that we had time to do ...

Thank you for sharing your experience. Sorry about your empty miles, too. Tony

Thanks, Charlotte. Yes, I have been considering InternetTruckStop ... getloaded is usually no help. It was a Gov't load we took to Utah ... and we now know we should have taken the Barstow from Tooele ... since we stayed 2nd out the entire time we stayed on the SLC board. We don't usually drive...

That's good to know. I didn't know they would still offer you anything ... not sure they do, actually. Maybe they are supposed to, but I think if they do read the notes, sometimes they pass over you because the load doesn't fit the notes ... and that's okay. But, not one dispatcher who called...

Home Time Didn't Work - DH 2200 miles UT to NC

That's a good way to look at it. You sound like you're on top of it. I did consider what if we had to dh the whole 2200 miles home ... well, after fuel, we made 61 cents a mile the whole trip. If we had stayed home, we would have had our fixed expenses anyway, but with 2200 more miles, now...

Home Time Didn't Work - DH 2200 miles UT to NC

Nope ... it was a real need. Did you read it all? We were already home and were going to stay since we needed to be home the following weekend. We thought we'd take minis or maybe to a good area ... if we went out at all. We didn't want to take two weeks off, but we had to be home the following...

Home Time Didn't Work - DH 2200 miles UT to NC

Hi Charlotte, Nice to hear from you. We've been with Panther about two years, drive a D unit, and have been very active ... all 48 states and 5 provinces of Canada ... most several times ... UT several times ... and know what it's like to sit <g>. We use Macro 8, call for backhauls, we have a...

Home Time Didn't Work - DH 2200 miles UT to NC

Hi, I wanted to get some other's experiences with Home Time ... Panther, Fed Ex, Landstar. I've not used it much, but this week I was pretty disgusted with 2200 miles of dead head. That sure takes the numbers down! More of the story ... I was home the week approaching Easter and also needed...

    Need more fridge/freezer

I would also recommend the Engle! Yes, it's pricy, but well worth it ... and the battery demand will probably be the lowest you'll find. You can use it as a 0 degree freezer or a fridge ... and it makes a nice seat! We've used these on our sailboat and our truck. Tony Panther Elite

Top Loaded Milage Per Month for Landstar?

Hi Joe, My wife and I came into expediting for similar reasons as yours. In 2006 we put 121117 miles on our truck ... that's total miles including personal miles. I keep stats on the pay per mile for loads including dead-head, but I also keep overall numbers that include all truck miles...

Forget to use dolly / landing gear

Thank you. I probably know less about the suspension than about anything. Can these bags be adjusted? Can you raise just one side maybe to balance a slightly uneven load? I'm not even sure where the actual bags are, but I can certainly look closely. I guess I sound like a real novice, but the...

Forget to use dolly / landing gear

Thank you for such a quick response. How would you know if there was damage? If the bed lowers and lifts correctly, all is well? Thanks, Tony
