    Carrier cutting rates

As long as it's non-asset based, the underlying transport resources are largely irrelevant to their model. If an E-1 contractor isn't available, they'll just buy the commodity elsewhere

    Carrier cutting rates

This is the all too common approach in corporate America. The bean-counters rule the roost, and as far as they are concerned labor and machines are one-in-the same. Just numbers on a spreadsheet. Commodities that are readily available and easily replaced.

    Progressive raising rates

You guys aren't paying attention ... Flo says you gotta bundle to get the big discounts. When you're done bundling, head over to Staples and get yourself an easy button. Problem solved.

Expedite With Tractor and Pup Trailer?

Larger driver pool to draw from, lower tolls expenses, air-ride pups aren't all that common

    Progressive raising rates

Becoming a Dairy farmer is pretty easy and there are very low barriers to entry. It is so easy to get into that if they didn't fix the price of a gallon of milk no one would make any money! You obviously didn't grow up on a dairy farm

    Progressive raising rates

We can agree to disagree. While I concede the noted exceptions, the $ 4.00 / mile straight truck buyers are few and far between.

The answer to that would be zero ... Unless you're talking T-val

    The Driver Shortage

We would all be alot better off if more people understood that "Busy" and "Working" are not the same thing. Work implies doing something productive

    The Driver Shortage

Makes you wonder what the broker priced it at to the actual customer. Phone calls are cheap, and you only need to find one sucker to hit a home run

Multiple Carrier Operation - Straight Trucks

In my experience, partner carrier scenarios are widely prevalent at the day-to-day transactional level. Some carriers will tell customers on the front end that they don't have company branded capacity available for a particular load and "ask" the customer if they would like to them to check...

    The Driver Shortage

Maybe there is, maybe there isn't, maybe there will be. Any way you slice it, as long as there is a surplus of labor the corporate giants will continue to line their pockets by repressing the unempowered.

    Hazmat question

I'm with Phil on this one. From a packaging / marking / labeling / documentation stand-point ... Haz mat is haz mat. Whether or not "someone" who does not possess a CDL and/or Haz Mat endorsement is allowed to transport certain hazard classes in "limited" quantities is another question altogether.

Why does panther put you on a pro before you even accept?!

I have to believe that those with specialized equipment / capabilities / credentials would be afforded a much higher degree of latitude. Not much down-side from a carrier standpoint if a van operator gets shunned and takes his resource elsewhere.

What is the average weight of a straight truck load?

T270 ... What you will typically haul is less important than what the carrier's require you to be able to haul with a particular vehicle type. The typical requirement for a small straight is a minimum of 5,000 Lbs legal payload capability (amongst other things)

Pete or KW - Looking for a dealer recommendation

Zorry ... Northeast or Midwest, although I'm more concerned about working with someone with specific expertise in the expediter sector. I should have also mentionned in my initial request for assistance that truck will be a reefer. Thank-you.
