Mike, What is Bolt's pay to the truck for a D-Unit? Do you know if they will hire someone with only CDL school as experience? thanks

    bolt express

I finally got ahold of a lady named Stacie Moss. She said that Bolt requires 2 years of experience. All I have is CDL school so I guess I'm back to looking.

    bolt express

It doesn't give you a very positive feeling when a company ignores you. Maybe they are shorthanded on office staff or don't have enough freight to support hiring new drivers, I dunno, but if that's the case they could at least have something on their automated phone messages saying "we don't...

I am interested in Bolt Express too, but when I called they said Adam no longer works there and transferred me to someone named Mark. I left a message and have not heared anything back from him.

    Are you prepared?

I just studied on this in CDL school last week. They teach 1 second for every 10 feet of vehicle length under 40 mph and ad a second above 40. They also said in the real world 15-20 seconds should be the minimum for a T/T. For a straight truck I'd guess 15 seconds would be a good starting point...

    Graduating Soon Need Advice

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm still not 100% sure what to do, but I'm leaning towards T/T. To be honest though what worries me most about T/T is getting lost in a heavy traffic metro area or a rural area with tiny roads and having to find a place big enough to turn a 53' trailer around...

    Graduating Soon Need Advice

Tomorrow I'll be in week 3 of my 4 week CDL A refresher at Sage Tech. I still don't know which way I should go as far as a job. Either expediting or T/T OTR. All I know for sure is I want a driving job that pays a livable wage. Expediting seems to fit me. I like the idea of running hard to get...

Local, OTR, or Expedite - Need Advice

I've had my CDL A since 1997, but got side tracked with a non driving job. I have read of people jumping in to expedite jobs with little or no experience, so I thought about doing the same because OTR T/T jobs would require recent experience or at least a recent CDL school grad. Recently I have...

    Super D

I read a thread on another forum about the possibility of using a single axel tractor (or tandem for that matter) and using a 28' or so pup as an expediter. Haven't heard much more about the subject and was wondering if that could possibly be the future sweet spot truck configuration for an...

    Kenworth T-600 Straight Truck

The one and only expediter truck in my tiny lil town (Redkey, IN) is a T-600. It's leased on with FedExCC. I have never spoke with him, but a friend of mine said he use to be neighbors with him and if I remember correctly his last name is Reese. Anyways it's definitely a cool looking truck.

    Pulling trailers & Campers

    Set aside for taxes

I'd like to know the answer to the driver for an owner part of your questions. I live in Indiana if it makes a difference and have been told by a friend who is a regular OTR TT driver that he takes out 26% of his gross just to be on the safe side. What would be a good safe % amount to hold back...

2 Questions: Streets and Trips and Wirless Interne

I picked up Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 at a local school auction, but it didn't come with the GPS. Are there any decent cheap GPS that I could get that will work with Streets and Trips? I have a laptop with built in 802.11b wirless. Is it possible to use a cell phone as a modem or some...

    Shifting?

With the class 7 D-Units a 6 speed seems to be most common transmission from what I've read. I have never driven a 6 speed, but I assume it is synchronized. I know that allot of the "pros" in the Class 8s with 9 or more forward gears shift without using the clutch (floating). I was just...

    Need Class B CDL training

My brother is in a similar situation. The only school fairly close to him (Sage Corporation..Muncie, IN) only offers a CDL A course, but said if he really was set on only getting his B license that they could train him just on the tractor without a trailer then he would have to rent a strait...

    Experiance Requirements for D-Unit

Thanks for all the info everyone. This site is the best. I have a friend that has been driving regular semi (not expedited)OTR for 6 weeks or so. He's been telling me the company he works for would be willing to give me a refresher and 4 weeks OTR with a trainer then "turn me loose". I realize...
