    Best Cargo Box

I do not disagree with George about Morgan bodies. But here's a puzzling incident: When I began the process of designing our new truck, I wrote to a number of body builders, including Morgan, asking for price quotes. I sent each of them a copy of the features which I wanted. Only Morgan did not...

    Best Cargo Box

Marda and I strongly recommend both Hercules and our salesman there. He's Jeff Duckworth. He has given us extremely good service. He tried hard to sell us what we've wanted -- not what he wanted to sell. Jeff is most patient and cooperative. The Hercules products are well designed, well built...

    Honest / Dishonest fleet Owners

Streakn1: Congratulations on your victory! I too encourage you to post the names of the owners -- especially since your suit is now a matter of public record. Your doing so will allow others to know whom to avoid. I have little patience with scofflaws who mistreat others because they assume that...

(Please Advise Us with new truck pricing)

Yes, there's at least one price guide for used trucks -- maybe more than one. I've used the "ATD-NADA Official Commercial Truck Guide." The cover is not blue, but the book is a price guide. (ATD = American Truck Dealers; NADA = National Automobile Dealers' Association.)

    early impression on conway FSC?

Did the quoted line (about the fuel surcharge) come from Conway Now (the expediting subsidiary)? Or did it come from the parent company -- Conway -- the general-freight (mostly LTL) carrier with its large company fleet? That makes a big difference. If that line came from the viewpoint of Conway...

    Freightliner M-2 112

Hey, kids! Thanks for the nice words. Y'all enjoy your new ride -- and do it safely. Best wishes, Doc.

    Freightliner M-2 112

Amen on the securement! I use -- depending on the size and shape of the cargo -- usually at least two or three shoring beams at the forward end of the cargo -- plus usually at least two straps on the after end of the cargo. Proper securement is an indispensable part of avoiding cargo claims. Doc.

    Freightliner M-2 112

Here's a copy of a discussion on this subject which I contributed in December 2004: This principle is very useful in loading a truck: If the driver loads the cargo in such a way that the center of mass (center of gravity) is directly above the drive axle (or halfway between the tandem drive...

    Rene'

Terry and Rene: Marda (Special K) joins me in expressing our sincere and profound concern for the two of you. Marda is an RN with long experience in oncology, so she especially can feel much intense empathy for y'all. May God bless each of you -- and both of you together. Special blessings and...

    Military quips and sage advice

There are only two basic types of ships: submarines and targets.

    Military quips and sage advice

When I went through flight training, I learned about the three most useless things in aviation: runway behind an aircraft; altitude above an aircraft; air in the fuel tanks.

how do u hook up double batteries????

Terry is a retired Coast Guard officer. Coasties are OK. Sometimes they even get out of sight of land -- for short times.

how do u hook up double batteries????

    True -- followed by "get some now" -- for gold-silver-none -- for the tolerance (5%, 10%, 20%).

how do u hook up double batteries????

I sure do. Do you remember the color code for the stripes on resistors? In 2001 -- while thinning out our stuff before we went to the Mercy Ships -- I finally tossed my copy of the RCA tube-substitution manual. I had bought it about 1959 -- while doing projects in lab courses in electronics --...

how do u hook up double batteries????

Ditto on the wiring -- neg to neg, pos to pos -- ground to ground, hot to hot -- black to black, red to red. That's called parallel -- not series. Take that from an old goat who once served -- almost a hundred years ago! (1965-66) -- as the Chief Engineer (the Engineer Officer) aboard a...

    Pony system

Rex and Donna Greer, the owners, are super-nice people. We had a PonyPack on our first Volvo 770 tractor (starting in 1998). Rex is the hands-on head man in the shop. Donna runs the front office. They -- and their workers -- are strongly customer-oriented. Their employees are very friendly and...

    Praise for Bentz Transport Products.

Amen on the big upcheck for Bentz! Marda and I have had an extremely good experience with Keith and his bunch. That company is strongly customer-oriented, and their workmanship is superb. Our sleeper -- a 90-inch custom one built to our own specs -- is nearing the completion of its installation...

    proper way to say thanks

Ditto on the flashing. Yes, drivers appreciate "clear" signals. High-beam flashes are OK in the daylight. However, in the darkness of night, many drivers prefer to get "off" flashes rather than high-beam flashes. There's also one other factor: Many 18-wheel drivers dislike -- sometimes strongly...

    THE REST OF THE STORY

I too regret DD's bad experience, and I too share his frustration and disappointment. I feel truly sorry about his problem. DD said that he wishes to warn newbies. Sooo -- here's a bit more advice to anyone else who may get into such a dispute -- with A-junk or with any other party: Dear...
