Cargo Van Comdata Fees: Any way to avoid them?

Back when I first started, I remember reading somewhere (cant recall exact thread) that suggested buying a super cheap item at Walmart since that was one of the only places that didn't charge the fee. Turns out untrue. I tried doing a search and couldn't find any recent thread on specifically...

Cargo Van XPO or Load 1 for Cargo Van Drivers?

When I asked this question, I had a feeling it was going to lean one way and it did. Which is good. And I'll keep doing more research as I complete my next 3 months so I have the required 6 months of experience they require (ugh...). Thanks for all the replies thus far. Really, I'm asking this...

    Cargo Van 60/40 or 40/60?

Yeah, that last part about restricted movement would probably irritate the heck out of me as an operator of my own business, really enjoyed the freedom to choose when and where I wanted to relocate. That's also a great way to look at it (the 20% covering fuel). It probably should have been...

    Cargo Van 60/40 or 40/60?

I've done the 60/40 where I've been responsible for fuel. Always needed the advance after departing shipper to cover fuel costs. Still profitable, but if you had the choice would you prefer taking 40 w/ fuel card or 60 & no fuel? Which is typically more profitable?

Cargo Van XPO or Load 1 for Cargo Van Drivers?

Went 3 straight months with a fleet owner contracted with Panther. Won't ever go back. Fleet Owner was great, but Panther was useless. Their dispatchers provided the minimum help/effort/information as possible... it seemed like we were on opposing teams. I would ask not only my fleet owner, but...

Cargo Van How real is the "second-month slowdown"?

Hey everyone, just wanted to chime back in with an update. In the first month, I got 7000 miles. Which at .60 a mile (60% of .80/mile + .14/mile fsc), is a good amount of income. Ok. Lots of lessons learned on the road in the first month, and Im sure many many more to come. However, I have read...

Cargo Van Starting Next Week with Panther and I've Got Questions

Well, I just wanted to thank everyone here, you all helped me avoid a big mistake and taught me a few good lessons. I ended up not signing with that fleet owner and now am working with a new one who has been doing this for over 30 years and has owned a fleet for the past 10. He's doing the 60/40...

Cargo Van Starting Next Week with Panther and I've Got Questions

Wow, I was not expecting all these responses, my email was lacking way behind. Just asked the questions you all mentioned. - It is a 2015 Dodge Promaster Diesel, and it is insulated, but no external heating. Runs at about 18mpg? - He says he's been doing this for about 3-4 years now. I think...

Cargo Van Starting Next Week with Panther and I've Got Questions

Since this is a somewhat time-sensitive situation, I have continued reading through more threads and found that most of the experienced pros, including the ones here, wouldn't go near these types of deals where you are splitting the profit not once, but twice and will be left with very little...

Cargo Van Starting Next Week with Panther and I've Got Questions

It will be a gas dodge sprinter, I believe. If I did want to make enough to save/have extra $ to pay the bills, what would be your suggestions? I assume SOMEONE is making money doing this or no one would. If I could make $2500-3000/month, I would be ok with that.

Cargo Van Starting Next Week with Panther and I've Got Questions

What is a good rate per mile working for a fleet owner in a cargo van? I saw on another post that XPO only paid .80 per mile, in comparison .70 doesn't seem that unreasonable.

Cargo Van Starting Next Week with Panther and I've Got Questions

That makes sense. While not immediate, the owner has reiterated that any DH miles will be reimbursed through the following paycheck (I'll get that in writing). Without experience, I can't really say what amount is worth it or not, obviously the more per mile the better. Are there opportunities...

Cargo Van Starting Next Week with Panther and I've Got Questions

Ok, there was a typo in the contract, which he is fixing and sending, it was per loaded mile, not a percentage. At 50/50, owner gets paid 0.70/per loaded mile by Panther. I would get .35/mile, plus the .10 +/- surcharge, to use immediately after picking up the load (I'm assuming everyone who's...

Cargo Van Starting Next Week with Panther and I've Got Questions

So, I asked the fleet owner about this and from what he said, the reimbursement will pay the full amount for the vehicle rated at 65mph. He also noted that with every run, I will be given a fuel card, pre-charged with the fuel amount. The only time it won't cover fuel is during dead heads. But...

Cargo Van Starting Next Week with Panther and I've Got Questions

To clarify, it did say the driver is entitled to 100% fuel surcharge provided by Panther. Sounds like they will pay for it all, right?
