    ELD''s in cargo/sprinter vans

OK forgive me if this has been covered already but I haven't been able to get on here for a while. Since December is getting close with the ELD mandate, I was wondering if they were going to be required for cargo and sprinter vans? I am thinking about getting back into expediting and wondering...

@CharlesD....did you get extra pay for hand loading/unloading/ delivery?

    What is a short load?

I think you are right on with the 300 mile figure. Assuming that everything goes well on the way to and at the shipper and adding the drive time and unloading time that 300 mile run would probably use up about 6-7 hours of the drivers day. I would hope that the rate would be higher but at the...

no love from the tractor trailer

@Dynamite1... at the time I had the only class 8 dual axle straight truck there and I was capable of carrying 24,000# in the box so I got alot of tractor trailer runs that were less than truckload. If the dispatch needed 10 pallets at 20k moved they could either send 2 smaller straights to get...

no love from the tractor trailer

I decided to take some time off the road...kids were graduating, grand daughter being born...all kinds of reasons. After 21 years of driving I figured I could use a break. Now I'm thinking about going back...go figure!

    Supposed non force dispatch.

But you would also waste alot of fuel driving to shippers that were closed and you wouldn't get the freight anyway.

    Supposed non force dispatch.

I only turned that load down because it was physically impossible to get there in the time allotted by the shipper and they were not willing to expand the pickup time at all. And I did not bad mouth the carrier, dispatcher, or anyone else...I simply made them understand that they cannot wait...

    Supposed non force dispatch.

X06col- As far as example number one...the company I drove for stayed away from the northwest and rarely even ventured into or west of the Rockies so it wouldn't have made much sense to go farther west. As for example number two....multiple phone calls were made to dispatch and the shipper to...

no love from the tractor trailer

Very true JOHNCLARK!!! When I was with load one I rarely moved the truck for less than $2.00 a mile :), sometimes alot more :)

no love from the tractor trailer

@ tenntrucker...that's when I smile and say yes I'm in the truck that gets better fuel mileage than your tractor and I never have a problem finding a parking space :)

    the straight truck club

I can understand that. The average load is probably around 5-6K pounds so you should be fine. I just liked having the big motor (Cat C-15 450 horse) and I still got decent mileage. My philosophy has always been to have more truck than I needed just in case I needed more truck. Good luck in your...

    Supposed non force dispatch.

Charles D I like your thinking! I used to drive for one Michigan based carrier and we were never forced to take a load. On occasion I did turn down a load. I took a run from Denver to Dubois, Wyoming. The run offered a decent rate, beautiful scenery, and plenty of time to drive the distance...

    the straight truck club

@ pearlpro...are you sure you want to spec a truck with that low of a carrying capacity? Are you trying to keep it under 26K to stay away from getting a CDL? I don't know if you have a CDL already :). I drove for 2 owners who were signed on to Load One. The first truck was a Kenworth T-300 with...
