The Trump Card...

Here's a long overdue correction from From a sensible court.

Same judge who signed off on Clinesmith getting no jail time, some probation and community service after altering a FISA application renewal document that helped promulgate the false premise of the Russia collusion hoax.

Is the Straight of Hormuz Open Yet?

No? Not open yet? That's odd. Trump said he wants the straight open. He even said so on Truth Social. Why is is it still closed?

Well, what do you know? The Straight is now said to be open. We'll see how long it takes for traffic to return to normal levels.

It is important to note that Iran has not said it no longer controls the Straight. It said it has opened the Straight. Before the war, Iran did not claim to have the right to open and close the straight. And in fact, they do not have that right. But they closed it anyway in violation of international law. It seems now that they are reserving the "right" to close the Straight at will. They did not do that before Trump started the war.

It's also important to remember that, in addition to the current gas-price pain, the closure has already produced long-term negative economic effects for Americans. Those will be felt in coming weeks and months. And we must never forget that this whole mess sources to the illegal and unconstitutional war that Trump started.

As usual, Trump is saying a lot that Iran has not confirmed. And what some Iran officials are saying does not track with the "completely open" reporting or statements now in the news. All we can do is wait a few days for the conflicting statements to resolve and see what actually happens on the ground, or in the water in this case.

The straight opened in response to a 10-day Lebanon/Israel cease fire announcement. What happens after 10 days? What happens if fighting resumes before 10 days?

Some ship movement has been reported today, but it's a tiny fraction of normal flow. I imagine that the ship crews are itching to get out and back toward their destinations. They have been trapped for a long time. Expediters on long layovers far from home can relate.

This is exactly what I was talking about:

"Speaker of Iran’s parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that seven recent claims that US President Donald Trump made regarding Iran “were false”, and warned that the Strait of Hormuz “will not remain open” if the US blockade of Iranian ports continues.

"Trump told the AFP news agency that there were no “sticking points” left for a deal with Iran, while also issuing a series of upbeat messages on social media regarding apparent agreements with Tehran." (Source)

This is exactly what I was talking about:
"Iran's joint military command said on Saturday that "control of the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous state ... under strict management and control of the armed forces." It warned that it would continue to block transit through the strait as long as the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports remained in effect." (Source)

"A U.S. official told Axios that at least three attacks on commercial ships have occurred so far on Saturday, while the UKMTO reported two attacks. At least one ship was hit and caused some damage, but there were no reports of injuries." (Source)
-----------------------------
Here we go ... once again. Trump puts out over-optimistic BS on Truth Social that is unconfirmed by anyone else. It's unconfirmed because he literally makes this s**t up, often in the middle of the night when he is alone with his phone.

A pattern is clear in his war announcements. Iran is the better source of truth about the actual status on the ground. That's not to say Iran does not also lie. They do. But Trump is such a frequent liar and bad liar that Iran is the more reliable source.

Iran War Status Update

  • The Iranian people have not risen up to overthrow the regime.
  • Iran remains able to and does launch attacks.
  • Iran still has the nuclear materials Trump does not want them to have.
Trump has had no say whatsoever in selecting Iran's leaders.
The munitions story is asymmetric, meaning the US is using multi-million-dollar defensive missiles to shoot down Iranian drones and missiles that cost a fraction of what the interceptors cost. Every time an Iranian missile is shot down, it is a significant financial victory for Iran.
  • US munitions stores have been rapidly drained to concerning levels.
  • Because Iran controls access and the US Navy stops the ships Iran lets through, a team effort is underway to keep the straight closed that Trump says he wants open).
  • The previously announced cease fire seems to have collapsed early when Iran fired on tankers today.
  • Mine clearing apparently continues, leaving a small number of US ships as sitting ducks in the Straight of Hormuz.
  • US gas prices remain high.
  • Fertilizer shortages have developed.
  • Jet fuel has doubled in price in some markets and airlines are canceling flights as a result.
  • 15 US military personnel have been killed, 538 wounded, at least 5 seriously enough to require long-term care.
Donald Trump is and will always be the president who unilaterally started this illegal and unconstitutional war.
