is the 906 260hp in a freightliner the same engine as in a sprinter? I am just asking because when I do a search for a mercedes 906 oil filter I get results for a sprinter oil filter.

Nope, the MBE 900 is for straight trucks.

ok that is what I thought. so where is a good place to search for parts if I need them if I do end up buying this truck. I like doing my services and basic repairs myself to save money and also know they were properly serviced. I did a google search of mercedes truck engine parts but didnt get many good sources.

I disagree, Moose. "Any" grease monkey just won't cut it.

I am just now healing from the anal tearing via the rape I got last week from an independent "grease monkey" that clearly knew squat about my engine. Just to start, they marked up the price of my head gasket ($279 at Freightliner) to $610. Kind of sucks being captive to the unskilled yahoos at Freightliner, but there are no DD shops near me, and their hours usually suck anyhow. Never, ever again. Closest in my life I ever felt to going postal.

IDTrans: You can buy filters and shocks at NAPA (all I've tried so far). Be careful with the 'nipple' on top of the centrifugal, or spinner oil filter. Sometimes the cheap labor that makes these things doesn't de-burr the plastic well, and thing will become wedged into the bearing at the top of that $118 filter cap. Ask me how I know.

Depending on the year of the truck, he may not have the spinner. Mine's an '07 and doesn't have one.
