It's always funny, if it's not your city.
It's ok for us here in the metro area to take shots and poke fun at Detroit. We live here and understand the mess they got themselves in.

I take issue to somebody from, shall we say, Tennessee or Texas, taking shots and saying "bulldoze" it and laughing as if it's not a very serious matter for 750,000 people.

I don't find it funny.

I agree, to a point. But as far as the 750k go, do you blame the fools, or the fools who voted them in? People always make fun of those who made their own beds, don't they? Foolish old ladies who get duped into buying unneeded insurance, or timeshares. Truckers who are conned into believing a recruiter's slight of tongue. This is just on a much broader scale... oh how the mighty has fallen.

Not saying I always agree with it, but I can't help but laugh at Chicago, for what they've created.

I absolutley blame the sheeple in the city for the position it is in. No bout a dout it. But that's not my issue.

It is the snide comments about bulldozing or nukeing the city to make it look better and the laughing about what they just said.

It's not a funny situation. IMHO of course.

Unfortunately, Detroit is but the first. All we have to do is wait and watch, then hope Detroit is also the shining example of how a city is supposed to recover; so that it may help those yet to go bankrupt.

There may be some humor in schadenfreude [the pleasure of seeing someone who deserves it get what's coming to them], but none of your examples are people who "made their own bed". They're people who were lied to and taken advantage of, and I don't think that's funny, either.

Only time will tell if Detroit will become a shinning example of how a city is supposed to recover. They have zero track record of doing things right for decades and there is little reason to believe that anything will really change. It is already starting off on the wrong foot with residents of the State of Michigan, who do not reside within the confines of that hell hole, being forced to provide funds to carry out this "recovery plan".

Detroit has been a drain on the State's economy for ages. Needed funds are taken from the rest of the State and dumped into that bottomless pit. Until Detroit learns to first, live within it's means, and second, stand on it's own two feet, nothing is likely to change.

Probably run by the welfare gang, imho and you owe me's.

That is correct. Detroit is a prime example of how welfare/socialism destroys. It substitutes dependence for self-reliance. Rewards sloth and punishes success. It breaks down the spirit of Man and drains the life out of those who allow themselves to be seduced by it's empty promise of a "better life". In Detroit, for decades, it has been about redistributing wealth, which has helped to drive out employers. It is primarily residents that have forced many stores to close, by robbing them, often violently. Vandalism is rampant.

It is going to take more than a bankruptcy to bring Detroit back. It has taken over 60 years to get to this point, it will likely take longer to recover. It won't recover if the "welfare attitude" of being "owed" remains.

While all this is true, saying "bulldoze the place" and then laughing as if the situation is a comic routine is wrong, just wrong. It is a very sad situation and not funny.

Is that "all true"? or is it mostly the rationale for taking yet more from those who have the least? The "redistribution" script was written by the already wealthy, who have mined every penny they could get by now, and are looking to expand their efforts beyond the working class to the truly poor. Those employers who don't like 'sharing' with those who do the work to make the profits? They should not be welcome anywhere, IMO.

" Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration." Abraham Lincoln

The current culture seems to have turned that philosophy on it's head [with the help of numerous professional 'spin doctors', no doubt.] :(
