    contracts

Hmmm..., My thinking behind asking the question was that I know there are many multi truck owners on here, and that there was no need to re-invent the wheel, so to speak. However, you all make some very good points. I wonder what your thoughts are on creating a "trust" to manage liability...

    Stay Away from Detroit!!

Well, we may be getting a new Governor soon. I heard over the weekend that Obama may be considering her for some cabinet position. Boy, wont that be something. She can take all of her wonderful policy's that have worked so well here and implement them nationally. (smirk)

Well here we go with the first timer questions!!!

In the same way, I think it is the idea of "volume" that makes the husband and wife team see an advantage. More opportunity for more over-all miles, there-by creating more over-all income. I'm not sure how that would effect the owner, in terms of wear and tear, more exposure to road hazards...

    How's Business Recently?

Well, speaking only for myself, Ford freight has all but disappeared. NLMI freight has acquired the same status. Relatively non-existent. On the plus side, I've had time to learn to juggle and ride a uni-cycle, so maybe I have a future with the Barnum and Bailey organization!

Well here we go with the first timer questions!!!

Actually, I understand and agree with what you are saying Pjjjjj. And believe it or not, up until 2002, my company used to pay an additional 20% on all team loads. It has dis-heartened me greatly to have watched all the different ways that the profit has been nickled and dimed out of what used...

How Does it Feel to Buy Fuel?

Yeah, I suppose your FSC would color your view. Unfortunately, most of my loads are generated by NLM and the like where the typical FSC is 18 CPM. Now, having been in the business for ten years I remember like it was yesterday what my operating costs were VS. what they are now and it's flat out...

    question about randoms

10 times in two years I was the butt of a lot of jokes, having long hair and all, but, since i had to pay for them i started to get a little irritated. I was told our company had a software program that randomly generated a list of drivers to be checked. I also found out that several of the same...

    Van markings

Over the last two months, two buddies of mine were pulled over in Jackson ,MI. They were given warnings for not having commercial markings on their vans. They were both told that "their" company name and the city they are based in must be clearly marked on the vehicle. They both run as...

    Flying J Effingham Ill

This is a little off topic ,but, last Tuesday night in my little tiny one horse hometown, a city police officer stopped me because, he said, he couldn't see my DOT numbers ( hello? they are the big red letters against the white background of my truck). Then he asked to see license, registration...

    Im lost

The only problem with that T-hawk is that in the long run,(if these are new trucks to the industry i mean), unless the smaller company has its own customer base, we all see just a few less runs and quite possibly lower paying runs during the spot bidding phase.

    OK who did it?

RE: i didn't I agree Turtle, this business is what it is. My only point was, this business will be what "we" let it become. Thus the reason "I" opt out on holidays. Here's a quote from Dhalltoyo,(and i hope he doesn't mind :) ) " A fellow driver pulls into the shipper's lot and watches two D...

    OK who did it?

Ya know coco, it's funny you say that. Last year i was with Landstar and i was offered a load picking up the Wednesday before in Detroit and delivering Friday in Eagle pass. I turned it down though because i have deep feelings about the way this business is run. I mean, we get asked to do alot...

    Diabetes

Thanks Richard, that was exactly the information i was looking for! Cherri, you are so right. But its funny, isn't it, even when we know somethings not quite right, we just keep going along, seemingly powerless to do anything about it. Nightcreacher....whoa dude! A four day coma! Geez, i...

    Diabetes

A friend of mine asked me, " what is the DOT policy on Diabetes?". Well, i don't know. I remember hearing that once you have to start on injections your CDL is revoked. I'm not sure about that, but that's what i was told buy a fellow driver who was trying desperately to keep from having to go on...

    Pattern interupt shock

Just curious, has anyone ever heard of this? Apparently this is when something completely audacious happens in front of you and you fail to respond. Supposedly this is a form of self hypnosis where your brain gets stuck in a loop of trying to process the info while your body goes on auto pilot...

    Cell phone sales calls

Dag nab it! Two of the calls, both computer generated, came from CONSUMERS ASSISTANCE CORP. One was a Michigan number and one was from New Jersey. The third call came up as that mysterious "unknown caller". I don't recall establishing a relationship with these people. The automated message was...

    Cell phone sales calls

Apparently it is now legal to be pestered by sales people at my own expense. Three calls between Tuesday and Wednesday. Went to www.donotcall.gov Thursday. So far so good.
