    Question about fuel surcharge

So if each carrier pays a different amount of FSC, what is it based off of? Is it about the same for each carrier? What would a good rate be now?

    Good Mid-Size Carriers For Beginner

Hi, I was wanting to try expediting in a cv/sprinter under contract with a fleet owner to see if I like it enough to pursue. Does anyone have any recommendations as to reputable carriers I could call to see if any of their fleet owners are hiring? From what I gather, a mid-size carrier...

    Good Co-driver for O/O contract?

Not trying to beat a dead horse here, just want to understand what would be fair and how it's usually done. Using the example above: 20% of 1000 = $200. Linehaul. 20% of $750 = $150. Linehaul minus fsc and tolls. Wouldn't it be most fair for the o/o co-driver to take his $250 but still...

    Good Co-driver for O/O contract?

Hmm, it doesn't seem fair to to subtract the fsc from the linehaul and give me 20% of that total, rather than 20% of the original linehaul amount. Am I missing something here?

    Good Co-driver for O/O contract?

Thanks Denny, I'm in the process of being hired on with someone who is the o/o and other driver. What is the deal with the fsc, do I want to make sure that my 20% comes from the load total before the fsc is deducted or something? Someone was saying this may make a difference.

    Good Co-driver for O/O contract?

Hi, I've been searching the forums to no avail so far on the following issue: I would be hiring on as a co-driver of the O/O in a straight truck and am wondering what would be a fair contract? I wouldn't be paying fuel, so would it be 20% of loads, what about fsc and the other stuff? Thanks.

    Hours of Work/Sleep Habits?

Thanks all for the replies. Greg I was more talking about a van, otr implying non-local expediting which I suppose you take for granted hehe.

    Hours of Work/Sleep Habits?

In one thread I heard otr expediting is about 60% night driving. How much like shift work is it? Is there a lot of sleeping during the day? Do you get used to erratic sleep patterns? Just wondering.

    Wages

Assuming one is an O/O, what can one expect a solo to make in a van per year, 30-40k? Is this about the same as in a straight truck? I see after two years, one can probably make 50-60k in a tractor trailer. I still wonder if it just wouldn't be better to get Class A training now and go otr...

looking to buy a cargo van

I don't mind searching too much, the most annoying thing is that searches with only three letters don't work, like "GMC." A good newbie faq is a good idea also because newbies simply do not know what to search for to begin with.

looking to buy a cargo van

The second post by LDB on this thread answers my question 3 well: http://www.expeditersonline.com/forum/truck-talk/38793-e250-e350.html I guess it's unique to the average weight of freight one is hauling with one's carrier, but the 3500 is best if you want to have more stuff in your truck...

looking to buy a cargo van

Interesting view, I have narrowed myself down to going with the Chevy/GMC extended gas vans, due to hearing the 155" wheelbase rides good and that the weight and cost of the diesel engines offset its fuel economy. Anyway, I'm hoping someone could answer the following: 1. What is the difference...

    Regional Expediting Work?

In Class A CDL trucking, you can start out in otr work and then go to regional/dedicated work with experience. I am wondering if there is regional work for a Class B with Hazmat, I haven't been able to find that much. It seems like there is only otr jobs for vans and straight trucks if you...

    Question List For the Expo

Thanks Greg for the list (I updated mine and consolidated it to 24 questions), and thanks ATeam for the compliment. I went to the Expo but only interviewed 3 companies, I am going to try to phone some others in the next few days. Of the 3 I interviewed Tri-State was the most positive, simply...

    Question List For the Expo

Hi, With the Expo coming up I thought it might be a good idea to post a question list I found on the internet and was compiling. If anyone has any additional questions they think would be pertinent to ask please list them. Thanks. 1. What is the dead head pay / perimeters? 2. Do they have...

Buy A New Van Right Off the Bat?

Thanks for the replies, I was just being contrarian to flesh out the issue a bit. I agree with the above, that it would be silly to buy new without enough capital and experience.

Buy A New Van Right Off the Bat?

Hi, I have read on here such advice as to drive for someone otr a while to see if you like it, or buy a cheap used van for 5-10k to get started. While I concur the first advice is good, I am unsure about the second. It seems if someone has low cash capital to begin with, there is a fairly big...

    SW Ohio (Cincinnati/Dayton) Recommended Carriers

I am registered and plan to attend the expo, which I'm sure will be interesting. I've been reading previous threads about good carriers for solo vans and straight trucks. I suppose I'll apply to a few to be linked to a fleet owner and worry about getting my own vehicle on down the line...
